Should have scrapped the base and plus model. Their current price is an extortion for 60Hz screen, no telephoto lens and older chipset. Their only existence is to upsell the pro model.
The new pro model should become the new $800 base model.

I use a case anyway and aluminum is lighter. Aluminum could make sense on a Pro which is still made for occasional to moderate one-handed use. The Pro Max at 6.9 is a two-handed phone so the heavier titanium is not an issue, especially considering a bigger/heavier phone, when dropped, will have more potential energy leading to greater damage. What they could still do though is making both Pros polished (shiny) like the X to 14 Pro, which was rumored for 16 Pro as well. Galaxy S23 for example has polished aluminum so that’s possible without issue.

That would actually be a nice differentiation. Currently, the Plus is just a Pro Max sized phone at a lower price basically. This would be a bigger device without the weight penalty. It would also make sense of the rumor that said 16 Plus will have a smaller 4000mAh battery. It could mean they are already moving in the direction of making the Plus lighter by reducing the battery size. Of course, for segmentation, it would mean those who want the longest battery life will be pushed up to the Pro Max. It could also be a possibility to arrange the battery life by price. So 17 would have the worst battery life, 17 Slim probably very similar, 17 Pro better and 17 Pro Max best. This reminds me of the Galaxy A3/5/7/8 series from 2015. The A3 was the thickest (though still very thin) and the higher numbers got progressively bigger and thinner. That meant weight did not go overboard while battery life was comparable between the models so one could truly choose by preferred size, not by size + battery life requirements.

I don't know to what extent it's true, but I asked Mixtral (an LLM), and according to it, for a phone with a 6.7" flat display to have the same measurements (161.9 × 73.7mm) as the Samsung Galaxy S20+ (a 6.7" curved screen phone), it would need to have bezels that are 0.84mm. That tells me that if a phone had the same 0.84mm bezels but a 6.5" screen, it would be about the same size as a Samsung Galaxy S24. You could get a very large screen on a phone that can be used one-handed, and a 6.7" screen for a phone that is not much larger than it. Of course, we're going to have to wait until such thin bezels are even possible. A 6.9" phone with such small bezels would probably fit into a current 6.7" phone's size.

If the Pro model is going back to aluminium, will it get cheaper? This makes no sense for a pro iPhone which has previously came with stainless steel and moved to titanium with the 15s.
Also, one display roadmap said the 17 Pros would get a holepunch cutout, rather than the pill-shaped notch.

IPhone 17 Pro: Upgrade cameras with Quad bayer hi res sensor on main and 5x telephoto, Same size as base 17 or slightly bigger, A19 Pro and 12GB RAM
IPhone 17 Pro Max: Hi tes main camera, dual telephoto with periscope sensor (3x and 6x),hi res ultrawide camera, A19 Pro, larger size (6.7 atleast), 12 or 16 GB RAM
IPhone 17 lite: base iPhone 17 without telephoto camera, A18, 6GB RAM
