The Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge to be the company's first Snapdragon X Elite laptop

07 May 2024
But why is it called "Edge"? This used to be a name for the first curved smartphone displays in the industry.

I really do not think the Galaxy Book 4 Edge will have Qualcomm's X Elite SoC, as production supply isn't yet ready for next month according to the interwebs without searching for this product.

Anonymous, 07 May 2024can it game?Yes! You can game on the Snapdragon Chips on laptops including the 8cx which they launched about 1.5 years ago.
Though performance on that 8cx chip is not that good. It could play Control at 1080p from 12-24 FPS at low settings. The X Elite plays Control at 1080p with mixed (Low, Med & High settings) at a consistent 30FPS. Though the people who played it during the demo did not comment on whether V-Sync was turned on. Redout was playing at 1080p Ultra settings at a stable 45FPS. This was all done through emulation as both those games do not natively support arm64 Chips. Baldur's Gate 3 is believed to be running at 1080p Medium Settings at a locked 30FPS.

In short, the X Elite chips can game.

What if the "Edge" is a node at Edge Computing, which would signify it's an AI PC

Would love to see something on the lines of the ASUS Zenbook Duo OLED (2024) with its dual 14" OLED Touch Displays. And the smaller nodes with non Intel chips should help immensely with heat management.
I feel laptop manufacturers need to get a lot more creative, especially for high end productivity laptops. Multiple screens and touch screens help immensely.

Darth Caesium, 07 May 2024As someone who has a Google Pixel 7 Pro, I honestly find it... moreThat's fair enough, it's not for everyone. Personally, while I HATE trying to find screen protectors for a curved screen (OP 12) but it looks great and the way the gestures work make it feel great too.

Ouifuf, 07 May 2024I've always liked curved displays tbh. A curved screen... moreAs someone who has a Google Pixel 7 Pro, I honestly find it stupid. I don't*outright* hate it, but I don't see any advantage it offers apart from the cool factor while having plenty of problems with it. Still, if it means that phones have curved backs and curved frames, which I think all phones should be forced to do, I could be fine with having curved screens. Still, my personal opinion is:

Flat screen + Curved frame + Curved back = Best combo

As for whether every reviewer would give a laptop with a curved display attention, absolutely. Its sheer uniqueness would make it stand out to them and would be worth mentioning.

iPad 11 air is cheaper in my region with 60k bucks.

Ouifuf, 07 May 2024Okay ngl a curved screen laptop would be soo cool. Slightly... moreWhat I want out of a laptop screen is minimal and balanced bezels (as small as phones); a 14" Flexible OLED with LTPO, a tandem structure, a 1-120Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, DC dimming, proper HDR support, very good colour accuracy, Gorilla Glass Armour and a 2000 nit peak brightness. Curved screens have always been gimmicky and pointless, let's not make these when the displays themselves could be better quality.

And then Samsung will price it at $2000 defeating the purpose of this awesome chip and basically helping MB sales.
I only have hopes from Asus and Lenovo (and maybe HP if they are in on this) to launch a reasonably priced competitor to the MBs.

Okay ngl a curved screen laptop would be soo cool. Slightly curve the keyboard/bottom part inward so the screen isn't damaged when it's closed
