The number of preorders should state how many people really, really, REALLY wanted this thing. Overall, I think the Steam Deck did great, and I don't think Valve is planning on giving up on it either, like their other hardware ventures (looking at YOU, Steam Controller - I still want one, TBH).

That's a very small number compared to the gaming user base. The Wii U sold over 13 million units, and it is one of the biggest failures in console history.

Considering it's more of a nudge in the direction "hey people, buy games on Steam" rather than a product i'd say it's at the very least on it's way to be a huge success.

It hasn't always been highly successful, but overall it has been healthy since the release of the Game Boy in 1989. The PS Vita sold over 15 million units, and it was a failure. The Steam Deck is a massive failure financially. Valve won't admit it, though. In any case, I don't want Valve to give up. Competition is good for consumers.

It's a massive failure financially. Don't expect Valve to tell you this obvious fact, though, because obviously it would be a horrible PR. Imagine Valve says, "The Steam Deck is a massive failure. Most gamers don't buy it. Please buy it. We want money." Many times in life, you have to think for yourself. Technically, the Steam Deck OLED is a decent device, though.

And considering the deck has sold millions of units, I wouldn't say it's a failure.
