Darth Caesium, 13 May 2024Give me 4 years of OS updates minimum, and I'm happy. ... moreI'll be blunt: There's a survey stating that people buy phone within 3 years of range after their first phone purchase.

And also there's one CEO stated that 7 years of OS update is stupid (though I consider overkill), which also stated that 3-4 years of OS update is normal.

good job from Tecno, they continue to improve...

Cyberchum, 14 May 20242 years of OS update is not even close to being something t... moreConsidering the price segment for Tecno, and the fact that they never had any roadmap for updates before, this is actually not bad at all. At least they stated it, unlike some other brands.

2 + 3 is actually not bad for devices at this brand’s segment.
And no, nobody gives monthly security patches other than Pixel and Samsung flagship phones (and select A5x series). Even Samsung premium tablets only get quarterly security patches. It’s a joke, but blame Google for it.

As a reference, the only update requirement for OEMs from Google to get certified is to give 2 years of quarterly security patches. OS upgrade is not required.

IpsDisplay, 14 May 2024Guys guys come on at least more and more OEMS are offering ... more2 years of OS update is not even close to being something to highlight. Mi 11 Lite 5G of 2021 received Android 12 and 13. But here we are, 3 years later, and a $400+ phone is getting same 2 years of OS update that will most likely be delivered very late and the maker felt proud enough to point it out like it's a big thing. I like Tecno, but this is nothing to laud.

I personally think they should've just went up to Android 17 when selling the Pro and Premiere with its price point.

At least they got 2years major upgrade and 3 years security updates than nothing.

Two years of software updates? Nah.

Y'all asking a lot for a $450-ish smartphones but with better specs than even the Xiaomi 13T and from a company you barely here of. Make your own smartphones with better support. Bunch of entitled wannabes.

Incredibly scummy to announce boldly "3 years" but actually offer just 2 android OS updates...

I swear smartphone companies will invest money into figuring out new ways for marketing the same old stuff but just will refuse to invest in the stuff that matters...

This 2 year update nonsense is still too little. But, if I'm being honest, 7 years or maybe even 10 should be the minimum here. Android is in such a messed up state that OEMs customise the software way too much, and then cannot commit to long update lifespans. Meanwhile, new versions of Windows and especially Linux can run basically forever on any laptop.

If it can stretch to Android 17, this will please me even more.

Tecno finally listened to all complains about updating OS and stuff. Now I wonder what other reasons people will try to find in Tecno devices to complain for nothing.

In the meantime, I just found Tecno Camon 30 in a brazilian online store, probably a retailer that got some phones from the authorized stores in other countries. Hope they bring the Premier edition too.

When they start to do it consistently, people again complain about how long it will take, as if it would make any difference. 🤦‍♀️

It's being updated, as most wanted. That's what matter.

Tecno is a solid brand. I used the Tecno Camon 9 ( I think pro) a couple of years ago and it was one of those solid phones I successfully handed down to someone else in good condition. Can't say the same of my Samsung Galaxy Grand which became unusably slow after a year.
