I wonder that android based handsets have almost everything that is supported by heavy duty desktop and laptop computers, however why have they not been still made to run CD or DVD drives.

Hoping for HIGH performance with LOW power consumption. I guess that is what everyone is hoping for, regardless of the architecture.

Anonymous, 10 Jul 2013Yes it is a year old, but the fact is the comparison from I... moreWhat are you talking about. This isn't a full blown x86 architecture we're talking about. This is the Atom, although it still uses x86 instruction se, it is the same architecture that runs inside the Motorola Razr i, Lg K900 etc etc only that your one and a half year old reference is a Medfield generation. Its like you're comparing Snapdragon S1 to a Snapdragon 800. That's what a year and a half would do, they advances and significantly more than Moore's Law expected, and that's why I chose to 'overlook' on your year and a half old reference.

Baytrail is a mobile computing chipset, designed for mobile phones and tablet, and Intel has been doing a lot of testing on it, and they aren't stupid enough to increase the TDP just to blow a benchmark away. Plus it's running at a 'measly' 1.1 Ghz although it is a quad core processor. Now what I'm saying is just imagine if a 1.1Ghz Baytrail produces 43000 on Antutu (SX Ultra with 2.3Ghz only 34000), imagine the power efficentcy it has while maintaining its heap advantage over raw processing power. Efficiency.

See, most chipset manufactures embed ARM cores onto their chips or license the instruction set code.

The majority of users here would not know the difference between dual core 3ghz and an 8core processor in terms of games and internet processing - look at all the benchmarking tools, you'll always have a bottleneck somewhere else that limits the device in some way...

Obvious side (or positive?) effect of competition.

Some days ago we saw how that even Galaxy S4 is left behind in competition by Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

And wait, an unknown device running on Intel BayTrail Processors knocked all of them out with almost 30% better scores than Xperia Z Ultra.

Obviously ARM can't sit and watch Qualcomm & Intel suck their market share...
