... moreUhhh.....NO! He was a hborrific evil manipulative scam artist who stole many many many inventions and ideas. Not only that but he was the kind of person that was openly a thief and openly rude and mean yet people still believe he was some saint.
Many people are above him as many companies are above his. Popularity and money is not everything.

I really like Ubuntu, and support the idea of a competitor to Android. (I mean a real competitor, something that offers the same kind of power and flexibility) I'm also fascinated with the aspects of Ubuntu mobile OS that they've shown off.
However this has nothing to do with the reason I've been watching this, hoping for them to succeed. Just as Mark said, it's like we're all driving mass produced sedans. What we really need is a niche market, dedicated to enthusiasts and professionals.
This is also not only to give us enthusiasts something to nerdgasm over, but something to drive the innovation. If we have a high-cost, ultra-high end market to act as a proving ground for new technologies, that would increase the rate at which our galaxies and iDrones get more innovative, useful features.
A great example of this is Gorilla Glass vs Sapphire Crystal screen protection. Gorilla Glass is good... it doesn't scratch easy, but sand and grit will leave marks. this isn't the case with sapphire displays. Rub the crystal against concrete, you'll still have a beautiful screen. BUT it isn't produced in enough mass to be affordable yet. if we had our formula-1 phone market with crystal glass, consumers would see this, expect this, more companies would invest in it, prices would drop, and now everyone's phone is literally scratch-proof. (unless you tend to rub diamonds against your phone, of course)

ubuntu team should get some huge manufacturer such htc or sony is and make low ,middle and high ends with ubuntu not only one fone,that was crazy idea!

The founder is from my country South Africa and bought one its cool more than blackberry,tizen,symbian and bada. Ubuntu means humanity. I have a great respect for Mark mainly he is from my country.

So ... morean OS that can double as both a mobile OS on your phone and a desktop OS is like heaven on earth. all of that sync drama is only to overcome technological limitations because currently there are no systems that can perform this dual function. don't be so short sighted, this concept could change the way we do computing. while low end devices won't ever go away, high end devices are clearly leading our technological development.

They should have tried to announce it more, I didn't know the project 'till I saw this article.. And 30 collecting 12 m$ in just 30 days should finalise in a product, maybe something cheaper :D

The truth is, Ubuntu and Mint userbase is growing at a rapid rate on laptops as well as desktops. Now even some of the normal users in country like India are preferring Ubuntu/Mint over Win-Doze.
Now we have to see how Ubuntu's convergence plans that are limited to a few sectors, compete with Tizen's convergence plans, that allows it to be used on any device, form a SmartWatch to a Tv/STB.
Ubuntu has a plus with its existing developer community.So apps aren't going to fall short.
Tizen's plus point is that the hardware giants like Samsung and Intel form its TSG, so we can expect it to run on widest range of devices
