Just in case you didn't know, Project Ara IS Phonebloks. The person behind Phonebloks really was working for Motorola, and the posts he made were attempts to see how great of a market there was for a modular phone. I don't remember the links offhand, but I was following it at the time, and was a part of the data gathering they did, where they asked people why they wanted the device and had to complete "challenges" of how explaining how they wanted to use the device, and how it would improve their lives. I was in college at the time, and couldn't do all their projects every week, so I gave up. Point is, the two projects are one and the same.

I believe Ara concept will eventually save the consumers pockets as there will be no need to buy an entire new Phone if my Phone's one part becomes defected.

Please let the OS be modular as well! That would be all sorts of win! Allowing for customers to pick between Android or Windows (Apple will never agree to such a thing). But i'd get this phone in a heart beat if you could put Androids OS onto it. So excited to see where this goes!

Motorola a pioneer manufacturing company. Wise step to reduce electronic junk; and confusion in gadgets purchasing.
I do appreciate ; wish best tailor made gadgets will be at hand.

Bluemango26, 29 Oct 2013this idea is not really from moto. Its from phoneblocks they ahave been working on it for over a year,. phoneblocks is 4 months. you do the maths. they are also working along side phoneblocks to show support.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2013Nice start, but I didn't expect Motorola to initiate these ... morethe issue is, theose manufaturers are making lots of money in the phone market right now doing what they are doing. motorola are not, but they have all the knowhow needed to make this happen, this will benifit motorola but it would not benifit any of the names you mentioned.

Nice concept!! But it needs those block holders to be movable to accommodate for different sizes of same module(say a bigger battery). While the naked look is good, they might also want to put in a cover there.

Possibilities are limitless. Not just conventional camera, display modules but think of radar modules , laser ranger modules , radio direction finders etc. that would come in handy with it

So when do we get phonebloks with 320gb hybrid 1.8" hard drives, 4AH batteries, and 24-200mm f/2.8 stabilized zoom lenses?
