looks like innovation at intel just dropped - it will produce 64 bit arm chips from next year. at least it accepts that baytrail cannot yet compete with the mobile chip giants like qualcomm n arm.

dannn, 31 Oct 2013A lot of kids post about thinks that they do not understand... moreNah, Intel won't. Believe me, Intel won't kill the competition.
Qualcomm offer a good compromise between price and performance and is default in Windows Phone while Apple will use apple designs n' Power VR's gpus no matter what Intel come with. So, i think that they could only threat Samsung and Nvidia. If as much.

I think that unless they do a major review in ARM's default designs, (more or less what Qualcomm and Apple are doing, since both Samsung and Nvidia uses ARM's default) that made a signifcant boost to the performance w/o major heat production and power drain they can have a chance.

Not to mention GPU performance, where Intel chips just don't perform as good as the others.

AdamBoy64, 01 Nov 2013Nah, you're making fair points. The reason other companies... moreIndeed. Any idea from Apple is considered magical and revolutionary no matter how copied or moronic they are.

Fingerprint, well, correct me if the Moto Atrix wasn't the first to have this feature and 64bit... ARM was working on the design for quite a long time and Apple was just the first to bring it to the market. So? 64 Bit sound impressive but it means more to memory management than it means to performance per se.

But... It's Apple, so it is automatically revolutionary to the average iPhone user. Puppets.

The reason other companies copy Apple like that is not necessarily because they have good ideas, but because they sell. Doesn't matter if they're useless.

For example, pple puts out fingerprint technology - doesn't matter if it's good or bad, people will be talking about it, generating hype and interest. Other companies want to cash in on that hype.

Apple are the one who introduced 64bit so we must all salute the mighty iPhone for immaculate innovation. Look, iphone came up with fingerprint and the next thing HTC one Max has it. Guess what, there were rumors that S5 will be using fingerprint. Hate it or Love it that's my brand Iphone. I know haters will bash iphone after my post.. ha ha ha ha

And I didnt read, that Intel aint still trying to make their x86 superior, it seems like, it is just not now, but Intel cannot take a too big market loss, so they will compete this way, to maintain their position and make better x86 cpus for the mobile sector.

It is Intels fault to begin with. When Apple first started this whole mobile pocket pc with the iPhone, they asked Intel, to create a good x86 cpu for mobiles, but intel laughed at that and said, they wont do it. Steve became angry with Intel, chose somebody else, ARM in that matter and now Intel gets its paycheck...

Intel concludes that technical effort to produce ARM processor is less than marketing effort to push handset manufacturers to use Atom.

A lot of kids post about thinks that they do not understand. ARM is just a set of CPU instructions; like x86. Internal CPU architecture will be Intel own design.
The problem is not which is better? (the debate between CISC and RISC architecture is 40 years old) The problem is compatibility with existing OS. By choosing ARM architecture Intel has compatibility with 99% of mobile operating systems.
64 bit, quad core, on 14nm will be waaay ahead everybody else.

My fear is that Intel will kill competition in few years.
