as you know, branded vendors also uses mediatek SoC, such as LG, Oppo, Sony, so you can't relly say that they're "third-rate SoC company" at this point, moreover, while Qualcomm and NVidia only released one version of GPU embedded in their SoC, mediatek have two GPU solutions: PowerVR and Mali, which is obviously more powerful than Adreno 20X series which Qualcomm relesed for low-budgeted Android phones. So now, which one will you pick: Qualcomm SoC with GPU Adreno 20X for low-budgeted Android phones, or Mediatek SoC with GPU PowerVR 54x or Mali 400/450?

Why MediaTek MT6592 does not appear on most renowned brands such as Nokia, Motorola, HTC, Sony, LG ..... where desire and interest will be added still more in Europe and Balkans for smartphones contain the MeediaTek MT6592 processor, success will be more more than you expected, that in the Balkans as far as know, I've met anyone yet who has the phone with MediaTek processor, not that it is not good, but keep the smartphone more from brands that I mentioned above,herefore I suggested that you will be interacting with these brands Nokia, Motorola, HTC, Sony, LG... !!!

Anonymous, 11 Dec 2013It's evident some of you don't understand is that on quite ... moreCorrection: on all of the mobile SOCs mutiple processors are used to take of special functions, and MTK ins no exception -- it got DSP, ISP, quad core Graphcs etc. Octo core is just a very flexible way to ramp up performance when you need it. And you will need it!

But mt6592 has the ability to run as many of the 8 it has, so power consumption goes up only when demanded. I use a mt6589t quad core 2000 mah phone, after wifi, bt & some 2 hrs talk time, I'm left with 50% juice at next day morning. Mt is doing a good job, hope 6592 lives up.

I think Qualcomm is more flexible than MediaTek as it has made a low and hign end quality for the its target market.

i'm using lenovo a3000 7 inch dual sim tablet,3000 mah battery and 1.2Ghz quadcore mediatek chipset. so far so good, no lag with brilliant battery life more than 24 hours with both sim on and continuously connected with H+ network.

For the rest of us, finally LTE is coming to MT SoC, this is a turning point. I can easily see MediaTek powering my future fairly high end phone, maybe already in 2014, only half a year ago I would have said that I rather burn in hell. Well done MT.

More cores @ lower clock speed means better battery life and less heat loss. Same as smaller vs larger cores.
The MT6592 is more power efficient than equal performing quadcores. Being A7 also helps a lot on that.

Who the hell needs octa-core processor, when we haven't squeezed enough from dual-cores? We have this octa-core processors from Samsung on SGS4, running at 1.9GHz, and they are still slower than Apple's dual core 1.3GHz. Moreover, the battery life is obviously better on Apple's dual-core devices. Make not more, but smarter

It's evident some of you don't understand is that on quite a few of these SoC's is that some of the cores are dedicated to specific real-time functions on the phone, such as the accelerometer, gyro and proximity sensors.
Apple and Samsung both utilize this type of design, so maybe it makes more sense once you know how the cores are being used

Quad core is enough... Octa core is insane! You should know that the many cores your phone has, the bigger demand for more powerful battery which leads to either small but thick battery or a thin battery but too wide.
I wonder.. since my friend has iphone 5 (dual core) and uses LTE most of the time.. it tends to heat so much.. I wonder how does octa-core + LTE do? it might leave a burn mark on your pocket.. or maybe in your hands.. lol

Currently having MediaTek 1.2 Ghz Quad Core Processor MT6589 with PowerVR SX544 GPU along with 1 GB RAM in my phone and it works really well enough for me. Hoping to see some tough competition in the market due to MediaTek.

Phones have battery constraints. So you won't ever have CPU hungry background apps.
And since no apps can actually use 8 cores, it won't do tasks faster hence won't save battery or have better performance.

So you won't need more than 1 or 2 cores for background tasks. And there's just not that many apps that can use more than 2 cores at a time, not even on PC.
So 8 cores IS too much. And it won't save battery or boost performance to have 8 cores.

I have to agree. Especially if mobile devices want to ever compete with their x86 counterparts it will be tough. Look at Xeon Processors they are now at 15 cores 30 threads. Packing four of those into one 4U server thats 60 cores 120 threads.
