Why did Nokia had success with Lumia while LG, Samsung and HTC did not? Well, all of those WP phones were never actually "premium".
By the other hand Lumias look and feel premium, top quality even on low grade phones as 520. Even I who never had to use Nokia apps love the look and feel of a Lumia and would buy it just for that.
Now don't forget this, what is Sony know for? Good looks and midrange devices feeling as top of the range. Let's be honest, how many times have I lost myself looking at some coworker's xperia thinking "waw!what a great looking phone, that must be expensive!" just to find out it is a entry level Tipo or Miro? Lots of times.
So, if Sony applies that to their WM range and with some good cameras and bravia screen they might just pull it.

Maybe it's a good idea to develop their own OS like Samsung!

Dear Sony (and the cohorts who lurk here for independent input),
I'll begin with this; Nokia scores 92% of all WP cake shop for a reason = they're technically now a MS division/dept. Other so-called "partnering" OEMs are just livestock to be killed in that slaughterhouse. AVOID from being that part of the statistics at all costs! Not even Samsung with their market might are now too eager to put out WP devices. This isn't just about build quality, it's about insider advantages and who else aside from Nokia with the utmost upper hand at that?

windows phone other than nokia wont get updates fast and also wont get those awesome exclusive nokia apps, most of wp customers would go for nokia products, so sony may not succeed much

None of you will buy this once it is out. It's easier saying you will whilst it is theoretical. Reason is: Android.
If you're an S4 owner and sold it presently, what would you buy in the interim until the next batch of 2014 devices? probably a Nexus 5.

Hoping for a midrange or even high end Sony phone running FF OS/Boot2Gecko. WP is too slow, feel like im having a stroke when it forces me to watch those painfully slow animations, strange how anyone can mistake that for "smoothness", the truth is that WP ticks along in its own speed regardless of hardware, thats good for low end users but makes it very sluggish on high end hardware.
Heres to hoping that this rumor turns out to be B2G and not WP, cheers and happy new year.

Sony testing all the mobile os.... Sony's one and only profitable division... They analyse various os to sell their smartphone.. Whatever the os they want to agressively engage releasing neww models..within 2 years they release nearly 30 to 40 models in to the market....so sony surely integrate with windows os.....once a giant in electronics....but now a days???

Go ahead, Sony! WP8 would be a great choice!!! Maybe Sony Vaio Phone series would be nice!!! :-) I already have Sony Vaio Tap 11 and it's nice tablet or notebook!

I think that will be wonderful! In fact, I'm really tired of reading and seeing Windows Phone related mostly to be Nokia related only.

i hope they pay attention on the display.. i will never buy sony again unless they use amoled or ips display..
what they have now is tft display with a very washed out colors.
