Current MTK6592 smartphones like the Zopo ZP998 have performance matching that of the Samsung Galaxy S4, and features that match other international brands like Double tap to unlock, black screen gestures, air gestures, F/2.0 apertures and NFC. There has never been a better time for MTK smartphones and it seems the future is only getting brighter.

got a device with MediaTek MTK6589T quad-core 1.5 Ghz Cortex A7, with 1 GB of Ram, it performs decent, i'm pleased, the only problem it gets too hot at times but cools down fast.

i really don't know why no one wants to use the nvidia chips! i mean the new sets of tegra notes are so cheap so i'm guessing the chipset is cheap too! i mean the tegra chip is awesome in gaming it's like the amd in mobile! so why would they use mediatek so much? and there's actually a lot more better chips! there's broadcom, rockchip, spreadtrum and allwinner! but of course i still like the tegra chips! i love it fo gaming! and i like the tegra 4 really! can't wait to get those tegra note!

Because its direct sales, no distributors or stores are making profit from it, and Google themselves are not trying to make high profit on it. Plus it is not a great phone, not very expensive to make, and no additional charge for software support and updates.

Try to buy it in a store in a country where its not available through play store, its a quite expensive phone, not worth the price.

It may be the case for your phone with a fake quadcore set in rom hence your legendary slow experience.

I have 1 6589 and 1 6589T phones and they are fast enough to consider them as fast and smooth phones.

Look at the Nexus 5. Snapdragon 800 with a starting price of $349.

Great, LTE support at last. We are going to see some nice Chinese LTE phones soon, im sick and tired of seeing overprized Snapdragon 800 everywhere, finally we can have high end phones at a lower price without giving up LTE. Sony should also act fast on this, the Xperia C has already put them in an advantageous position as tier-1 manufacturer offering MediaTek.

Not bad. MediaTek can do wonders in the mobile semiconductor business. I had a MediaTek MT6589 phone. As gaming requires full CPU and GPU power, it makes the phone heat but with that phone I had, it would heat up too but at the same time, cool down real quickly. All the best to MediaTek.
