Other companies CAN produce their own OS, but do you need them? No, because of the lack of the application optimization. Developers would commit suicides if you would have, think, more than 10 OSes for each company it owns.
Plus, Apple makes an OS and that makes them so special? Sony is the real deal. They own TV's, Laptops, Camera's, phones, tablets, many more. Same credit goes to Samsung and lot of other companies. They have better stuff to do then creating kid tablets, "REVOLUTIONARY" phones, and wao those overpriced laptops, etc. UGH. At least they try to innovate than just steal ideas. A7 is one of the little things they just done right.

Of course most phones run Android OS cause all other companies cannot produce their own OS. Think of one other company that makes Software AND Hardware and THEN compare. Please don't tell me Google because the Nexus' are NOT made by Google.

Not a fan of iOS but i had long advocated on comment sections for Apple to get into the phablet space and i think they will do very well as well as add more to the competition of those class of devices. I think even though the form factor and screen size of the iPhone is very compact and comfortable for one handed use...it can be limiting in some cases screen wise. I am sure about half of iPhone users will prefer different screen size options.

Please take a look at MACs they have very little market share than PC reason not because they are bad because they are expensive and have a completely different ecosystem. Same goes with iPhone, iPhone is the most sold high end smartphone. Apple is the company with most profit. Why should they give a damn about marketshare when they are already making huge profits.

(some info for the person who wrote the comment below this one) for your kind information samsung as a phone industry alone is doing better then iphone in every part of the world but America. you need a good read through market shares in your breakfast lunch and dinner time. and ohh yeah midnight snack too.

Jailbreaking the iphone widens the limitations of poor Apple. but it voids warranty, so why doersnt iphone make their so called "most advanced software in the world" a little exciting and add something NEW. I repeat something "NEW"!!! im not an iphone hater but im against the way they rinse public money by a product created by the Legend Steve jobs to help people in a positive way not make their bank balance into minuses.

This phone war between iPhone n Samsung by individuals are getting monochromatic now... we are all know the story behind the S2 that lend to what we have now..S4. No phone beats Sony with quality photos and applaud their dust free waterproof initiative, likewise S4 on their group play and iPhone on the fingerprint technology, app store. There will always be rivalry, like the iPads were not the first pads around but became the best, Samsung follow, phablets are open for business, so the rest will follow suit...
