Regarding your opinion that it would be a drop in menu by a swipe...i dont think it would be the case.....right now we get a pop up of volume menu at the top by pressing the volume buttons.....i think that would be the same in this case and not by any swipe gestures as that would bring the notification tray that was previously believed to be coming.

I'm excited, though I really don't like onscreen buttons (why sacrifice screen for buttons when you can have content on it?), the 'silent/ring' needs to stay where it is now, in the top corner, easily accessible and sliders are ugly and useless. I would like to see all the features from the screenshot, but this just looks like some ugly custom built notification for android. Note how the time font is also weird. It's either fake or really early prototype.

I hope they separate ringer and notification volumes. I'd like to go to sleep with my notifications silenced but the ringer still audible for phone calls.

Looks like a mix of android and ios style. I mean ios control centre is accessed from bottom. Android notification are pulled from top. So i think quick settings may be accessed from top and notifications from bottom.

Yeah, definitely fake, also notice how little room there is for the music track name, that is a no-no

FAKE! The shading is standard photoshop style and it reflects the recent rumors so precisely... I think it would be very naive of M$ to adopt a standard android/ios style swipedown menu. They have a much better interface for that; you can have a small tile which expands to a bigger one with all the settings when you tap on it, moving all the other tiles and then becomes small again rearranging every other tile in the previous position when you close it. This way the interface would be more dynamic and the menu would not cover other icons/tiles when open like it happens in android and ios.

Looks like cosmetic change so far. Still no significant improvement on Windows Phone. I'm utterly disappointed with Microsoft. :(

It looks like a mockup. There’s no drop-shadow in the modern-ui concept, plus this background color does not exist.

If this is true, it's a developer's simulator. THerefore tile colours might not be accurate, and the buttons displayed are neccessary as there is no hardware - therefore no on screen buttons in release build

Looks we'll see also some different background colors, not just black and white.

Who the hell said anything about swiping down to see the drawer?!
How can you "see" that from a picture?!?!
The sound controls will most likely appear when you press the volume buttons, just like they do now, obviously.

This will show up when you press volume key, swipe down will bring notifications, like iOS.

I hope Microsoft merges Windows RT with Windows Phone 8. That would be the most advanced thing. I love the beauty, elegance, fluidity and consistency of WP8 UI. It just feels so modern and fresh.
