Qualcomm have nothing to worry about, mediatek will never pose a threat to them, no matter what they do. Qualcomm already have their chips in all of the high end hand sets even for this year, and the same for the mid range devices. I'm not sure why mediatek bothered really, it's too little too late.

mediatek is good but qualcomm aiming at $150 lte smartphone at max. but mediatek seem to increased their price for the new chip-set to $400. but thinking of the gpu mali t760 which has the ability to produce over 300 gflops. i think it will be clocked similar to the power sgx544 in mt6589. this pricing of $400 might cause mediatek a loss

Protocol, 23 Feb 2014Nice GPU choice from MediaTek! Competition is always a good thing. I hope this company does well in the future and not end up bought by Qualcomm or similar.

TylerGrunter, 23 Feb 2014You are kidding, right? The 64 bits is the low power cores... moreI know that, but 4 core A53 is more than good enough on the CPU level..it is a modern architecture with remarkable power efficiency which means more power can be given to the GPU which is a more important aspect of the SoC now days.
And given that T760 is also vastly improved from efficiency standpoint compared to Mali T628, what makes you say this uses just a few core variant?
If low key was the point, using a midrange GPU architecture would make more sense.

TylerGrunter, 23 Feb 2014You are kidding, right? The 64 bits is the low power cores... moreand mr genius do you even know that this is not competing with Cortex A15 .. this will be competing against snapdragon 410 for 200-300$ devices .. Adreno 306 is already beaten .. mediatek once again demolished snapdragon in low end.. i am guessing if it is any better than current mali 450 then qualcomm will have very bad gpu..
since current mali 450 is already at adreno 306 level .. between adreno 305 and 320 .. this new gpu will be better than adreno 320..

AnonD-213908, 23 Feb 2014I wonder why people still think Mediatek is a lousy brand w... moreWell, it's not strange really, most product out there using MediaTek SOCs are low-low end devices, with old generations of MediaTek chipsets with really bad performance. Often with words like dual core, or even quad core as some kind of proof of speed, when in reality those quads and duo cores are often less powerfull than single core options from other chipset makers. But that is of course because the chipsets in those devices are the cheapest one can get (old chipsets). Using these higher end MediaTek chipsets would have driven prices up. Using these chipsets will offer more performance per dollar, but they wont be the cheapest around, so they will still not be the ones found in those low-low end devices.

Darkich, 23 Feb 2014Mali T 670? Or you mean Mali T 760? If it indeed is the T... moreYou are kidding, right?
The 64 bits is the low power cores A53, which are just a bit more powerful than A9, not even near the A15 cores.
The Mali 760 can be configured from 1 to 16 cores.
and Mediatek not saying the number shows that they went for the low numbers, probaly 4 (if consumers are lucky and they didn´t go for 2) which means: 4 times weaker than the Tegra K1

I wonder why people still think Mediatek is a lousy brand when the MTK6589 trashed the crap out of other low-end SoCs since the start of 2013 and their stuff has only gotten better since then. This MT6732 definitely won't touch Qualcomm chips in performance but it's a moot point when the phones can be made much cheaper and the performance is already more than good enough.

That should keep qualcomm on its toes in terms of development. Mediatek is not playing around.
