Modular phones are horrible. Better buy new Nokia X with android for almost same price. Much better phone.

Well technically, an assembled phone would be cheaper...but in the long run, it would be miles more expensive to repair when out of warranty. So a modular phone would be the best bet overall. Factory assembled phone wont be gone even if modular phones become very successful. And Im all for modular.phones. Its.just more practical, and it will always suit everyone's needs. Modular "CAN" become cheaper actually, because small players who doesnt have a large investment to build their own mobile phone company can contribute instead by building high quality standard modules in which they are specialized. Then replace more expensive modules from big players such as Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, Sony Etc...

Something to look forward to, I think its too early for people to be so negative about it(toilet tile etc). It will be a phone customizable for any end user, whats the use of buying a phone that has, for example a gyroscope and barometer when all you ever do is talk and sms(senior citizen). I personally used all the features so more likely to buy all the tiles that can be combined to make an awesome end product.

                            For example.

My computer cost me rouhgly 550 to build (about to cost more since I need a new graphics card)

But a laptop with the equiv in power would cost roughly 800 dollars.

Its a really beautiful idea of phone that can never be wasted but what i believe the main disadvantage of project ARA is that the phone will become a money eating piece like how PC is today. A PC today is that you go to buy VGA card is expensive you go to buy power supply unit is more expensive than processors and mainboards and heat sink ram slots are also expensive but the only thing cheap is the computer's chassis. So in project ara the cheap will be i guess the mainboard and expensive will be the blocks that you wanna upgrade and install. For example i have a preinstalled block of snapdragon 600 and if i need a block snapdragon 800 will cost me lots. Or a new WiFi block with upgraded frequency and data speed will cost me more and more. Think about it. I am not against project ara as i like this ara project alot too.
