SONY is probably the most INNOVATIVE and under appreciated company we have on this planet.. Xperia phones are just terrific with great build quality, performance and specs..

Build quality: both are good but Z2 has additionally water+dust proof.
Screen: both have really nice screen.
Software: personal taste, after all it's android and hence fully customizable (but Sony's camera, walkman, album apps are better thn HTC's)
Camera: all knows about ultrapixel ultra-s#!t and goodness of Sony's 20.7 mp camera
Battery: Z2 has 600 mah more than M8.
Chipset: same in both.
so, kindly enlighten me where all is M8 better than Z2, which you have named 'average'?

Having Z2 for almost 3 weeks (User from Singapore) Xperia Z2 is awesome with stunning display, excellent audio quality coming from waterproof smartphone, sturdy build and speedy user interface with no lag issue at all! =D
