Still too expensive for non-fanboys.
Jolla is on a delicate line.
Manufacturing phone doesn't make profit except if you have a huge volume, so they can't really offer a great hardware/price ratio.
This phone is not much more than what Nokia has in its carton boxes. Developing a new phone takes way too much time and resources they didn't have.
Having a specific OS is a differentiator as well as a handicap for people who would hesitate. Again, if you're not a fanboy, would you take the risk of using an OS on which the apps you want may not work and pay a premium for taking that risk?
As a kind reminder, Sailfish is not that opensource. The core is, but the user interface (what makes it "special" and different from any Linux project) is not.
And last but not least, the Android compatibility is tampered by the absence of Google Play, and they won't get it because Google will never allow them to.
Anyway, competiton is good and I'm glad to see people trying to do things different.

Decided to get a Note 3 last yea... moreI too had N900 and N9, and thats another problem i have with Sailfish OS: N9's MeeGo wasnt a worthy successor of N900's Maemo 5. I was really shocked to find out that Nokia had gone from a complete Maemo5 to an OS that wasnt even in beta at launch, the most incomplete ever. The great Maemo browser was replaced with a buggy and weird thing that didnt even have Flash support (which came later but even then it wasnt working well enough for more than a few hours of testing, performance was terrible). And then the MeeGo gestures? They didnt work well, my honors go to BlackBerry for making the first practical and efficient gesture based OS.
And this is what Jolla based their work upon. It should have been Maemo 7, not this crap.

Yeah, I think they are using too big words here. "A big enough user base" etc would probably have been a better word for it.

why the heck everyone wants to release a phone with new os. why cant anyone just release an OS which can be ported to any handsets

Still about 100 Euros too much.
And another issue: TOH is a good and a not so great idea in the same time. What about the next model, maybe a larger one? Will they release another generation of "TOHs"? Or if they will consider to sell more models in the same time... TOHs for every model? - This is more trouble than it's worth.
Better take a look at the market, be flexible, put on the right price! An open source smartphone is really needed, there is place on the market for this, even the lack of apps isn't the biggest issue. But please be realistic about the price!
Yes! And that Yandex thing! Please consider to offer the Android compatibility without the Yandex Market! Not everybody like it! Offer the right to choose (and sideload) the Market we want! For me, this is an issue. I would like the Android compatibility for a while, but without Yandex.

I had a Nokia N900 and N9. Decided to get a Note 3 last year and it is a great device. My girlfriend wanted Jolla after having used my N9.
The screen resolution isn't as bad as you would think at just over 1 ft away it is very hard to see a difference in sharpness from the Note 3. Also colors are great on Jolla and the screen is very bright.
After the first launching of the camera when it is relaunched it is much faster than a Note 3 or any android phone. The difference in software makes a huge difference and as a developer I honestly believe no matter how powerful android gets it will never be able to match Jolla's speed in this aspect. Just software limitations in android.
The webcast browser also posts benchmarks well beyond any smartphone and is very close to icore 5 laptop performance. Great sound through headphones or external amp.
In short I am very happy with my Note 3 and enjoy the S-Pen a lot, still there a many moments I am jealous of her Jolla. Sailfish is the best smartphone OS I have ever used. It is not for everyone though. My girlfriend couldn't get the most of a Jolla if she didn't live with me. Even the reviewers at phone arena weren't smart enough to use Jolla and fix the early battery drain issue. So the average end user may not like it but all the Samsung and apple fanboys have been shocked by it. Battery life is amazing and doesn't die in a day when my girlfriend leaves her tethering up to her iPad at work.
Note 3 and Jolla are equally as great devices despite the hardware difference that is how powerful sailfish is. Good luck Jolla wish the bigger companies cared as much as you do.

Just Wish these Old Nokia Employees could do some work with Google an Release either a Jolly/Android or just a Android phone,an show to there previous Nokia Group that Android was Right for Nokia an not Windows

Jolla cannot survive with its phone instruments. Better it focus on OS and tie-up with a Chinese/ India manufactures who bring in volumes (Micromax, Gionee, Oppo, etc).

who would buy this phone? seriously? they expect us to pay 350$ for this? i can get a nexus 5 for this money or, if i am brave to try a new bran, i can buy the new one plus 1

i dont think Jolla can survive, releasing this phone with a qHD display was such an epic fail that it will be hard to correct it. They must get a decent device out asap instead of this thing that is still twice as expensive as it should be, but all the money already wasted in developing such a failure will still be hard to get over, and investors will see the one failure and ask them why they think they will succeed next time.
All they had to do was to put a 720p display and they didnt, failed at the essentials. Clearly these people are not able to run a smartphone company.
