Not sure if I missed it, but I don't remember seeing anything about Turn by Turn GPS Navigation. Does anyone know what the Fire Phone will utilize? I'm sure it won't be Google Maps but I can't imagine a $650 phone not having this capability in 2014. HERE Maps maybe?

You Know Me, 18 Jun 2014Agreed. Searching for things to purchase on a phone is pro... moreisn't that bit short sighted? go back 10 years and you wouldn't even think to use internet services on your phone.

firefly comes across as a semi-visual equivalent to siri. right now it's focused on searching for products. but it wouldn't take much more to make it recognise people, buildings, etc. so if you "see" something that sparks your curiosity, point, shoot (with 1 button) and get your answer.

remember amazon isn't just a giant online store. they also power a gigantic cloud services network (storage, compute, etc) which is how they'll likely dominate any competitors with cloud storage attached to the phone.

it's wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to see amazon focus some of that cloud compute power to run services exclusive to the phone.

Read all comments and first i do think its overpriced and limited ATM but at least they tried something milady different.

Secondly somewhere along the line they have to reinvent the wheel...It was touchscreen, then candy bars then clamshells then sliders then double sliders and now full touch and its getting boring..Everyday companies just churning out exactly same phone with no choice..Is this Sony's new Z2,is this new iPhone ,is this new Galaxy S5 and guess what they all look the same...Its the same thing day in day out even podcasts and tech sites i follow are bored.

Anyhow i was a smartphone obsessive but since full touch arrived its worn off..At least Nokia brought out radical new designs all we get is another boring slab..

It looks like almost everyone else than Apple are in big trouble and trying to fight for leftovers.

Amazon have an opportunity to cross sell their Firefly to the current Kindle users. There is a burgeoning following but mainly in US and Europe.

However this may be just what Amazon wants for now. Only time will tell.

nicksht, 18 Jun 2014RIP Apple. With Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony saturating the fl... moreLol, please read more, it's good for you. Developers have had nothing but praise for Apple's latest WWDC. Apple has listened, and has totally shifted direction, opening more to developers than ever before, opening up it's OS to third party apps.

iOS and Mac OS work together synergistically in very exciting ways, and Metal for iOS will bring console quality games to the next gen iDevices.

As far as I can tell, the only company seemingly suffering right now is Samsung, already cutting its orders for SGS5 by a whopping 25%!!

Not good, considering HTC and LG G3 posting excellent sales. What does that tell you?

Strange idea from Amazon, because at these prices and limited availability the phone will be a flop. Essentially, Amazon made a phone to sell their stuff online. Well, as such the price of the phone is exaggerated. Second, it's a strange assumption that people will bother taking photos of items they could easily but at the store. Personally I think it is a nonsense to take a photo of a book or any other item at the store, just to order it online. When I want to buy a book I see, I buy it right there at the bookshop. This phone will burn like a fire. At least Amazon picked the right name.
