Only company that design the CPU which is ARM Holdings.
I believe Apple had a deal with them to hold the technology for other companies. So they can have most advance chip in the market at least 1 or 2 generations.
Even Nvidia K1 has ARM CPU but they come up with their most advance GPU. If Apple can keep the deal they can always keep ahead.
Next Apple A8 is using the same architecture but higher clock speed. Let see who can keep up with them.

AnonD-8008, 24 Jul 2014Apple does not manufacture their harware. Their 64bit chips... moreYeah, it starts off as a great marketing point.
And then.. people lap it up.

Suddenly Samsung and everyone else want to get onboard with 64-bit processors.
Apple are great at starting trends like that.

AnonD-8008, 24 Jul 2014Apple does not manufacture their harware. Their 64bit chips... moreSo who Apple buy it from? The only engineers that can design 64-bit ARM back in 2012/2013 work for Apple.

Apple has nothing but just use money to pay people for technology!

Apple does not manufacture their harware. Their 64bit chips are made by third party maker. Apple just went: "hey! no one got an 64bit chip yet, so lets buy it from someone an announce it rightaway. And we are like gods again..."

My iphone 5s fits well in my hand. 4.0 inches is the best. big screen is not cool at all. I have seen many people struggling with their big phones as if they have been borrowed. Anything around 4 inches I'll buy. 5inches doesn't differ much with my iPad mini 2. IPhone you have my vote.

You say "But they are not ARM-based" like it's a minus... As a software engineer I regret that x86 didn't get more popular in the mobile space. You have to work with very-very limited registers and instructions sets on ARM... Awful for performance.

now if this is allwinner's 64 bit chipset. is it running on true 64-bit processing capability. and like all existing 64 bit computer processors. how much power will it eat? octa means 8 cores using 8% of power. and will it include a separate chipset for secondary function?
