Samsung Galaxy S4 set ablaze by counterfeit battery

26 July, 2014
The phone started burning while being kept under a pillow, fortunately not harming the person sleeping on it.

Its better to change from plastic case to metal case for heat absorber.

It's good to know that, you use a replacement battery and then blame the manufacturer and get paid. It happens only in US and to my surprise I can read some comments where people are saying that its samsung's fault.I am sure if it happened to iPhone the title of this Article would be "A precious iPhone is destroyed by a stupid guy" remember AntennaGate in iphone 4 and people would have praised how good an apple iPhone is that it prevented the entire house getting burnt. Just because Samsung is an Asian company people do not like them. They forget most of the phones including iPhone are made in China which is an Asian country.

That battery is a counterfeit only if it had a logo identical or similar to Samsung. If it didn't have any logo like Samsung has then it's not considered counterfeit because it's not trying to immigrate the original product. It would just simply be an after market replacement. So charge your title, is legally incorrect.

So you put your phone under your pillow, sleep on top of it probably bending the charging port, and it is Samsung's fault? Any phone will overheat eventually given those circumstances. People have no common sense anymore. Next lets cram it in our back pocket then hop down on a chair and complain if the screen cracks.

Yeah, go blame it on the company because it uses flimsy plastic. Apple does no better as i got zapped while browsing the phone while it charges. Although not a deadly shock, it is still a discomfort for the customer. The only solution the apple center i went gave me is to put a rubber sleeve on the phone. No phone brand is immune to defects or malfunction.

Why would her parents get her an S4 anyway, and as a girl who probably uses a hair dryer and possibly hair straighters should no better. Any device that generates heat should be kept in a well ventilated area. Any girl knows that any appliance they use that gets hot should be turned of when not in use or to keep an eye on it.

If you put smartphone or notebook under a pillow it's your faulty and problem. Pillow is working as heat insulator. It will overheat device and making it life time shorter.. with bad luck.. could burn. And it doesent matter which manufacture was battery and device. Simple logic to understand what will happen if you cover with something a device which is generating heat.

Why was it under a pillow? Pressure on the battery could cause it to explode and even if it wasnt that it could have overheated

Yeah... buy cheap spare part that burns down house and blame Samsung(not that i'm a fan). However, kudos for them for replacing the house, bed, child, phone and battery!

If this would of happened in any other country, nothing would of been replaced!
