                    I have to agree.
Too much leaks is bad for design, research and development and ultimately hurts these companies which are only trying to provide us the consumer with the best possible design and product.

mir, 03 Aug 2014Some phone companies can actually benefit from the interest... moreIt also give opportunity for companies to copy other companies before a release product is announced.

You have no idea how much stuff Samsung got off from leaks from other brands.

If all leaks dies.. so will Samsung.

That would be much better, at least I found that too much "exposing" of manufacturers gadget leaving the consumer a feel of disappointment if not interested on their coming releases added that commenters would likely to lists their own desired technical spec, and rather, why not make their own phone on the first place while keep complaining at manufacturer such as made of plastic, glass,no removable batterry...its true but we have choices and you can skip if you want though, and go to others that offers what you really want and stop complaining.

Leaks can be fun, but on some level what does it really matter when we learn what a new device looks like or what its specs are? It's essentially arbitrary whether it's this month or next month. There is a point in time before which we know nothing and a point in time after which we know what a new device will be like. That's true wherever that point in time falls.

That being said, I do think that the leaks can funtion to disrupt the effort of manufacturers to manage every aspect of consumer expectations and perceptions. Our lives are commercialized and managed enough be the corporate powers that be, so anything that disrupts that I suppose I'm in favor of.

On the other hand, it is obvious that many "leaks" probably come from official sources and the whole leaking culture is exploited to generate hype about a new device. That makes us very few gadget nerds who follow this stuff more tools of the PR machine, than cool in the know early adopter types. And we are going out of our way to make ourselves part of the mechanism of corporate promotion. It's a bit sad.

In the end, I guess I'm indifferent. I've found myself more and more bored with leaks over time. They're as often wrong as they are right. I find myself thinking who cares? We'll just find out what the device is like when it's announced. It's always more interesting to know what a device actually is, than what it maybe sort of kind of might be like. So I guess I don't think it's that big of a deal if Blass wants to do other things with his time, whatever that turns out to be.

I'd be asking the question: how did he get the information about the impending release of the handsets in the first place. One can't operate in a vacuum with this type of industry. He could be prosecuted for an act of industrial espionage.
