Apples' PR, marketing / launches have all been learned and enhanced by ALL phone suppliers
This event was mentioned on here and was glanced over by myself, but it was NOT or NOTiced by Apple.
I have never known Apple to bring forward an launch so with the 19/09/2014 date being the date "officially" leaked by many informed sources for the last 3 or 4 months....And the 5.5" iPhone not launching until December 2014, there was no need to change the date albeit by 10 days
IMO Apple are worried about the market in general and the arch enemy Samsung.
The Note 3 specs will already have specs above that of the forthcoming Apple iPhone, the Note 4 maybe the must have phone when launched
The 09/09/2014 Apple presentation, is imo to shorten the wait for the undecided.
The 5.5" competition which Apple is yet to join has Apple competing with phones already released, eg LG G3
Apple may be the only company that has so many loyal fans who only and always will buy an Apple iPhone.
But sometimes there is the phone which you instantly see and must have, it is your phone
EVERYBODY is losing ground to Xiaomi, but for Apple and Samsung, it is NOT about upgrades, it is about making SALES now increasing the customer base as customers lost now only become new customers again in 2016
It becomes more and more difficult to sell a premium phone when your customer base already has a Dual Core Quad Core phone, so presentations like this is to create Impulse buying

In any event I'd be suprised to see the Note 4's screen go smaller. Considering the screens on the S series get bigger every generation, I would have thought Samsung would not want to risk any overlapping between their two flagship series devices.
My guess would be a QHD screen of between 5.7 - 5.9 inches.
