In case you or someone else missed it, let me make it more clear. The likely contributors to the fact that you get more life per mAh has to do with:
- processor, the more cores, and the larger architecture uses more power.
- screen size, because of amount of light it has to emit.
- resolution, because of how many pixels the gpu has to render.
- OS, but it's hard to compare those at this point.
Let's now compare the iPhone 5s with Galaxy S4
- processors: 5s - dualcore 28nm, Galaxy S4 - quadcore 28nm. iPhone should be more efficient (in theory)
- screen size: 5s - 4", S4 - 5". iPhone should be more efficient.
- screen resolution: 5s - 640 x 1136, or 727040 pixels. S4, 1080 x 1920, or 2073600 pixels. nearly 3x the pixels to render; iPhone is more efficient.
- OS: I'm honestly not totally sure, but we've already seen some compelling evidence for difference in efficiency.
Now let's look at the iPhone 6 x Alpha differences!
- Processor: A8, probably gonna be a 2GHz-ish dualcore 20nm. Alpha runs on 2 cores at 1.3GHz while idling, or smaller tasks, also 20nm. pretty comparable, I think.
- Screen size: Both 4.7"
- Screen resolution: iPhone 6 is rumored to be 960x1704, which is 1.6MP, and Alpha is 720*1280, which is 0.92MP. Alpha has the edge on efficiency there.
- Os... well the Alpha has that ultra-power saving mode, which should at the very least, help in a pinch.
My point here is you CANNOT determine the iPhone 6 vs. Galaxy Alpha power efficiency by comparing the iPhone 5s with the S4. We might see that the iPhone 6 lasts longer, who knows, but before the tests come back, we really can't project.

G2 - 3000mAh (62h)
5S - 1580mAh (54h)
The G2 sports a 90% larger battery, but only lasts 14% longer than 5S. How is that value for money, if you're arguing purely on battery performance? That is worse than the GS4 - by a long shot.
iPhone doesn't need to have the beefiest specs when it, as an all rounder, is quick to charge and provides better power management, whilst scoring high on customer satisfaction.

If you don't believe me, simply check the Battery Tests yourself:
iPhone 5S = 1580mAh (54 hours)
Galaxy S4 = 2600mAh (65 hours)
Result?
GS4 battery is 64% larger than the 5S.
GS4 battery lasts only 20% longer than the 5S.
Therefore the overall iPhone 5 performance is more efficient in the longterm for what it is. It's simple maths guys.
I realise that the GS4 has a larger screen and processor, but that's the price you pay. In the end consumers will pick what suits them best.

iPhone has a smaller battery capacity, but all you need to do is take a look at the battery performance to see it's playing its game very well.
