    Maybe it's because we need the convenience of carrying just one device.
    I am using a 5" smartphone for making calls, texting, browsing, listening to music etc., but sometimes I feel that the phone screen is just too small.
    My 7" tablet on the other hand, is a little too big to hold for making phone calls, although it's pretty good for browsing the internet.
    I guess I need 6" phablet.

                  Actually the reverse is true. I use a "normal size" S4 a my primary phone. I also have a 7" no-brand phonelet as a media player + occasion phone call. I also have multiple accounts on Whatsapp & Line for business reason, that 7" phonelet serve that 2ndary purpose.

                      In Hong Kong a lot of foreign domestic helpers buy the tablet-telephone. They aren't paid very much and most of their money is sent home. These kinds of devices means they don't have to pay for 2 separate machines.

                          I'm from Indonesia, I can confirm that the above article is true, but the telephony feature on tablets is barely used here, almost every people who own tablet with telephony feature also have cellphone as their primary communicating (phone call and text message) devices.

                            Tablets with support for GSM voice communication have been around in Indonesia since 2010 (thanks to Samsung Galaxy Tab and Dell Streak).

                            it's kinda ridiculous watching people talking to a big slate at first, but now we're getting used to it since many people do it.

                            -_-;

                              i hope some company would make a tab that comes with the concept that HTC did with the Butterfly S, wherein you can have a monochromatic phone attached through bluetooth so that you don't have use your tab.
