17 September, 2014
The losses are expected to quadruple due to the low sales performance of the company's mid-range phones.

The issue really here is the 6-month upgrade. I just bought a z2 and damn they released again z3. No customer satisfaction. No to update my phone over z3 just a ps software. Hoping for a z4 that will run a 64-bit chip hmm.

MarkoVU, 18 Sep 2014OMG,can't believe that!I had so many phones so far,includin... moreQuality of hardware? Lol. Screens that cracked by themselves - very good quality lol. Old chipset even when it launched. Sony deserve to rot as they promise people updates over the years and then let them down after making us wait for months - either that or they give you an update that trashes your phone.

Reduce phones in midrange segment? What midrange phones does Sony have? And don't give me anything with a snapdragon 400 rubbish in it as that isn't a midrange chipset.

Sony gave us new phone in every six months but come and think of it...i wont just exchange my phone every six month...why not update just one phone in one year and provide a better spec but a affordable phone...-- I Love IT....Go Go Globe, Sun, Smart, TalknText, ABS-CBN MOBILE, REDMOBILE, TOUCHMOBILE...

I remember BB had an inventory write-off of USD 1 billion a year ago (due to unsold Z10 phones). BB is now somewhere low in the smartphone market. I hope the same does not apply for Sony.
Perhaps they are too much in it and not seeing the big picture:
                        - one flagship every six months is not a good strategy (at least Apple and Samsung don't apply it)
                        - cheap Chinese brands will eat your market share if you don't offer mid-range phones at competitive prices
                        - you are Sony, you are expected to support your customers, not dump them (see the no Kit Kat update for SP, for instance).
USD 1.2 billion loss is huge. That should raise a big question mark.

OMG,can't believe that!I had so many phones so far, including Symbian,iOS,windows,Android but never had anything like Xperia. For about a year now I have Xperia Z and for me it's the best phone ever!Everything is just the way it should be-design,specs,quality.It's my little pocket computer, media player,tv,radio,camera-since bought it I stopped using all other electronic devices.Design is so simple and nice but so practical(position and design of power button and volume rocker, position of 3,5mm jack, covers for ALL connectors so for the first time dust isn't coming in and everything is clean like new one).I adore Sony's UI-it is so logical, practical and nice for me like no other.Quality of hardware is so far away from all other phones. In one word-PERFECT device. So I hope that Sony Mobile will survive and bring us many great high-end smartphones in the future.

Sony has a very big problem in its midrange smartphone offering. They have very low specs but the cost is high. Some other smartphone manufacturers give you more than what Sony offers four it's midrange phones and still they charge less. I think that's the cause of its loss and nothing more.

Mid range devices are the bread and butter for any co... moreYesss, Sony midrange doesnt make sense, even the T2 has Adreno 305 and HELLO SONY, 305 IS TOO WEAK FOR 720P! What a downgrade from 2013 midrange, that was actually good apart from pathetic batteries and power hungry displays.

And wtf is T3, what IS that thing and where does it fit in? Not to mention M2, how can the successor of M have 4.8 inch display? And regardless of that, who would want the M2 in any case? And where is the successor of L, why is there no reasonably sized midranger anymore?

But its getting worse, look at E3... Wow, what an epic failure.
