30 September, 2014
You won't need to turn the smartphone in order to swap parts out, safe for the processor and display.

Project ARA - comeback of bulky phones! In technical aspects this is crap. It is better to sell idk phone and buy new one. It will be more rugged and smaller/ or with bigger battery. Only things people need to change are memory and camera and soc. And we have this possibility already. Why buy cheap phone and replace all modules for better? Who would provide driver support for 3-years old modules? Google, manufacturer?
If u wanna better display, u need better graphic chip, which is usually integrated in processor. So u get new phone with old battery and camera. Additionally If every module will be separate, phone will be crazy thick to fit separate module slots but battery will be still mediocre.

Arif, 30 Sep 2014The screen can be replaced, but it's just not hot-swappable... moreThen its a great to have mobile, finally, I can buy this sometime in third half of 2015

Anonymous, 30 Sep 2014What if you just want to upgrade your processor? That should be possible imo..so long the processor module has consistent interface.

i think the article means about can't swap processor and display is for hot swap, which means it could be swapped if the phone is turned off

NotePro, 30 Sep 2014Display swap is essential otherwise this will remain a half... moreThe screen can be replaced, but it's just not hot-swappable; the screen cannot be replaced whilst the device is still powered on.

The device needs to be shut down, then the screen can be removed (even if you have to go through removing other components too).

                    All the best. :)

Display swap is essential otherwise this will remain a half hearted attempt. Most of the people damage their displays frequently than any other parts.

It's a very important distinction that tech blogs and news sites really should be aware of.

The information just stays on the module it was saved on. Much like memory cards or hard drives in every other device out today.
