As calmcritic partly said, I also believe that they do not need to create a child company when they could have done competitive models for their existing line-up. Do they need a new name for such agenda? Isn't their vision at Lenovo flexible enough to adjust to their upcoming agenda without the need of doing the same in a new brand/company? As I've been tracking their progress all this time especially after they have acquired the hardware divison of IBM, they have been targeting masses with their low pricing already, and I believe they have the potential to be more exstensively aggressive with their competitors. I thought I read an article somewhere that they have been competing with fellow Chinese brands ZTE and Huawei. When Oppo and OnePlus entered the scene, they've been grabbing some of their customers too. Both companies have been advertising their products crazier than Lenovo could with their Vibe line. I could only notice Lenovo holding back a bit on ads.

I'm playing riddles here but as an Anonymous once said, I agree the info on their plans is still shallow at this point. Who knows? Even I don't know what else could they push. I don't know if they could stir up the mobile market/world with such project. I'm even more interested on what they could do for developing apps than creating a new company.

I'm also baffled with how Xiaomi is doing well in my Asian country even if the brand is not yet known by majority of my countrymen. I like how we could order and have the option for cash on delivery from their official localized site.

In the event that kadafi's statement about Lenovo having not majorly reached UK market is true, I could just wonder what would happen if Xiaomi beat Lenovo to hitting UK shelves :)

The plans are a bit vague and could mean a lot of things really. I guess one would have to wait until more tangible information comes out.

AnonD-89109, 16 Oct 2014Lenovo is IBM. The only difference is in origin country. Re... moreNot even close buddy you're confusing IBM's old "PC business" that was offloaded and became Lenovo today, to the whole entity which is an entirely diff IT consultancy juggernaut that it is now. So Lenovo is not IBM per se.

And yes I agree I'd pay top dollar for an S5 Active + Note killing Thinkphone any day.

"The new company will focus not only on devices, but also app development. Its goal will be to stay close to its customer base."

Eh??? That's exactly what Lenovo itself need to do, not some new sub co.?

To begin with Lenovo will have to take a number and this isn't such a good idea trying to beat Xiaomi at their own game at precisely where they've gained the 1st foothold = local turf no less, Xiaomi were built that way from the ground up at the get go. They don't operate at Lenovo's scale thus affording that kind of luxury for moving LESSER inventory faster whereas for Lenovo to set that sub up now have to scramble for costs, HR not to mention R&D for more devs to cover that apps' objective and sales' infra reallocations.

Furthermore for this plan to work they'll need to kill off both of their own A and S series keeping just the K and Vibe line, to take the clutter out.

So what's wrong with Apple's brand store + electronic store + carrier + online method of sales? It is faster to get the phone and faster to get service.
