Google Pixel and Pixel XL will get the January security patches next week, according to Verizon

Vlad, 27 December 2016

Last week we heard that the Android January security patch would be released for the Huawei Nexus 6P in Australia on January 4. And today Verizon has basically confirmed that the rollout of the next update for the mobile devices supported by Google will take place next week.

Verizon says the Google Pixel and Pixel XL will both be graced with a new update starting on January 3, which is next Tuesday. There's no changelog, just a line of text saying that it brings "the most up to date Android security patch", so there are no new features to talk about this time around.

The build number for this upcoming release will be NMF26U. This information isn't surprising in the slightest, since Google likes to put out new security updates on the first Monday of each month. Since the first Monday of January 2017 is a holiday, it makes sense that the push would start one day late in this instance. Also note that the Motorola Nexus 6 will probably receive its first build of Android 7.1.1 Nougat alongside these January security patches, as revealed earlier today.

Windows and iOS are much faster and more secure than Android. Especially Windows; most secure of the three.
