Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro teardown reveals unorthodox build and big heatpipes

Ro, 01 April 2020

Arguably the most interesting phones for teardowns are the gaming ones. Even most of the flagship phones these days look almost identical on the inside while gaming handsets require more sophisticated internal design to keep the CPU and GPU up and running at full capacity for longer.

Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro teardown reveals unorthodox build and big heatpipes

Well, the Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro is no exception. This beefy gaming device has two thick copper heatpipes connected to the metal shields on top of the SoC itself. But to access them, you have to remove the bow tie-shaped glass sheet on the back of the phone. We haven't seen back designs like this one so it's cool to see how it comes off.

So if you want to dig deeper, you'd have to approach the phone from the other side, meaning you have to remove the display panel. Only then, you can remove the whole SoC along with the cooling hardware. Another interesting thing to note is the battery design. It appears that Xiaomi is charging two separate batteries in order to hit the 65W mark and charge the cells so fast. Oppo and OnePlus are doing something similar.

But we don't want to spoil the whole disassembly process, make sure to watch it.
