The Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition appeared earlier today on JD.com with a chipset called Snapdragon 768G. It may have looked like a typo, but one leakster on Weibo revealed this is an actual platform by Qualcomm that will be unveiled with the new Redmi phone. While there were no specs in the initial leak, later a tweet revealed the internals of the SoC.

The CPU cluster contains one core at 2.8 GHz, another at 2.4 GHz, and a cluster of six at 1.8 GHz. The GPU will remain the same - Adreno 620 - but clocked at 750 MHz instead of 625 MHz in the Snapdragon 765G, which is a massive 20% increase.

The leakster says the score this chipset is reaching on AnTuTu is around 360,000, which is way above the 300,000 results the regular Redmi K30 5G with Snapdragon 765G yielded. The overall performance will be about 10% better, meaning we should expect a similar price hike - probably starting from CNY2,200 ($310/€285) for a 6/64 GB phone.

But that's how they move tech forward. If no one uses these 5G modems, they won't be able to improve on them later.
