Honor Play 40 arrives with Snapdragon 480+, Pad 11.5" Pad X8 Pro tablet follows
The new Honor Play 40 is here and it looks different – it’s the same on the inside, but it looks different on the outside. The company also unveiled a sleek new tablet with multimedia in its blood.
Honor Play 40
The Honor Play 40 is powered by the same Snapdragon 480+ chipset as the Play 30. This time, however, it has better memory configurations: 6/128GB, 8/128GB and even 8/256GB. You can add up to 5GB of virtual RAM on top of that. Also, it launches with MagicOS 7.1 (based on Android 13), whereas its predecessor came with Android 11.
The display is essentially the same as before, a 6.56” LCD with 720 x 1,612px resolution (just over 20:9 aspect ratio). It has a 90Hz refresh rate and a notched 5MP selfie camera at the top.
The rear camera features a 13MP main module with 1080p video recording and a 2MP depth sensor (this sensor is a new addition, but we would have preferred an UW lens).
Moving on, the battery is slightly larger with a 5,200mAh capacity (200mAh up), but it still only supports basic 10W charging. Besides the USB-C port, there is also a 3.5mm headphone jack and the phone carries Hi-Res Audio certifications (both wired and wireless).
Really, the biggest upgrade here is the new look with four color options. The camera island is flat, but it stands out with a different surface finish (the camera lenses do protrude, though) and there is a sparkly ring around the “AI camera” label.
The Honor Play 40 is already available through Honor’s online store in China. The base 6/128GB model is priced at CNY 1,380 ($190/€175/₹15,700).
Honor Pad X8 Pro
At 11.5” the Honor Pad X8 Pro is larger than the Pad X8 (10.1”). Its IPS LCD has a resolution of 2,000 x 1,200px, 100% coverage of sRGB, 400 nits peak and 2 nits minimum brightness. Also, the display runs at 120Hz (or 90Hz or 60Hz). The slate offers high-end audio too with six speakers (two each on three sides).
The Pro model is powered by a Snapdragon 685 chipset, which can be configured with 4/6/8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. It runs MagicOS 7.1 (Android 13) out of the box.
The Honor Pad X8 Pro has a metal body, which is quite slim and light at 6.9mm and 495g. This is with a 7,250mAh battery inside, which promises 13 hours of video playback. There are three colorways available and the styling matches that of the Honor Play 40.

The Honor Pad X8 Pro is also available today from Honor’s online store in China. The 6/128GB version is priced at CNY 1,100 ($150/€140/₹12,500).

120Hz 1200p display for just $150 is an amazing deal. Good storage and chipset for the price as well.
