March security update hits Samsung Galaxy J1 mini and Galaxy Core Prime
The Samsung Galaxy J1 mini as well as the Galaxy Core Prime smartphones have also started receiving the latest security patch. The update arrives as build number J105YDVU0AQC1 and G361HXXU0AQC1, respectively.
Aside from Android fixes for the month of March, the update is also said to include some optimizations, enhancements, as well as regular bug-fixes.
As is usually the case with OTA roll outs, it may take some time for the update to hits your device. Meanwhile, if you feel impatient, you can manually check for it by heading to your handset's Settings menu.

So this maybe the reason why my friends' J5 2016 is still stuck at October 2016 security update even though there's a software update for it
