Huawei Mate 20 Lite stars in a few detailed hands-on articles

Huawei's Mate 20 Lite is the first handset in the series to become official. It's already up for pre-order in Poland and Germany, as we told you earlier today. It's no coincidence that the phone was introduced to the world in Poland, because the Mate 10 Lite used to be the best selling Huawei smartphone in the country.

The company is clearly hoping that the new model will beat its predecessor's sales numbers. A couple of Polish websites have already released detailed hands-on impressions of the Mate 20 Lite, and one of them created the video you can see below.

The device comes with a 158.3 x 75.3 x 7.6 mm footprint, and weighs 172g. Its 6.3-inch LCD touchscreen has 1080x2340 resolution (boasting 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 81% screen-to-body ratio) and, unsurprisingly, a notch. The phone is powered by Huawei's Kirin 710 SoC, aided by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage.

It runs Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.2 on top. That's the absolute latest version of Huawei's UI overlay, and it comes with support for GPU Turbo. Dual-band Wi-Fi is in, as well as NFC, GPS, GLONASS, and Bluetooth 4.2.

There are four cameras on the Mate 20 Lite. The rear system is comprised of a 20 MP f/1.8 main snapper with a secondary 2 MP sensor for capturing depth information alone (which is needed for portrait mode shots). On the front sits a 24 MP f/2.0 camera, it too aided by a 2 MP depth sensor secondary lens.

The AI camera features from the P20 series are in too. The Mate 20 Lite can recognize 22 scenes. For selfies the AI operation is divided into two zones - the background and the face. Settings can be applied to both independently of each other, in order to create the best possible shots. Interestingly, you can enable the AI functionality with one tap, and you can also turn it on or off after you've already captured a picture. Additionally, you can see HDR mode doing its magic in real-time, through the camera's viewfinder.

The AR lens animated 3D elements and the Qmoji are in as well, the latter mimicking your facial expressions. The implementation seems to be pretty decent.

The 3,750 mAh battery paired with the chipset built on a 12nm process should provide ample working time. Filling the cell up occurs through an 18W USB-C charger.

The Mate 20 Lite employs glass on its back, which reflects light in interesting ways but also quickly manages to collect fingerprints. A 3.5mm headset jack is present.

The phone is priced at PLN 1,599 ($437 or €374) and will be on pre-order until September 9. You'll find it in stores in Poland from September 10, in black, blue, and gold.
