Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, Z Fold4 to run SD 8 Gen 1+, a scrollable phone may join them

Yordan, 24 March 2022

Samsung already introduced the Galaxy S flagships for 2022, and now the company is obviously shifting its focus to this year’s foldables, namely Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4. The leakster Ice Universe reported these devices will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset.

He also corroborates the Korean manufacturer yesterday's rumor of a third device to launch alongside them - it is code-named Diamond and may even have a scroll screen, similar to the Oppo X 2021 rollable concept.

Is this a Samsung rollable phone? Is this a Samsung rollable phone?

Samsung does have its own flagship chipset - the Exynos 2200 with a GPU based on ARM architecture, but the Galaxy foldables have so far arrived with Qualcomm SoCs ever since the first Fold three years ago.

As for the rollable phone, Samsung Display is capable of manufacturing flexible panels, but there are still plenty of challenges remaining so it will be manufactured in very limited numbers. Oppo’s prototype was showcased in late 2020, and almost 18 months later we are yet to see a commercial-ready product.

looks like battery life and heating cannot be solved in near future. till then, they better stick with a high-end midranger chipset to solve them both. just need to make sure these have 3+ years of software support unlike other midrangers on the marke...
