Sadly I must admit that Nokia XR21 its worse quality than xr20. After 6months of ownership I had a few issues. Finally send it back. Firstly volume button stuck without any reason soon after purchase. Then battery life was significantly shortened. Finally device died. It's rugged but with this built quality it's worth half of the price. Won't buy again

i infinitely prefer full sturdy integrated design than a DIY home tweaked case and screen protector
only, the performances of the XR21 are looking weak in every aspect for the price of ~500 and for 2023. I wonder if that phone will last long about performances. It's like, they sacrifice almost everything for sturdyness. I understand niche market anyway, they need ROI on that... 550 nit looks weak also for outdoor use when sunny weather.
as for eyestrain, I thought having eyestrain using my samsung oled. Then I realized I used a lot of time at night in the dusk and with problems coming from elsewhere at that time. Wondering if this problem really came from phone now. we've been using CRTs for a century which where considerably worse at 60hz, led lights flickering at 50/60hz everywhere... yes there was some remanancy involved but still, a lot worse, and we weren't complaing thant much for eye strain. fluorescent and blurry pictures of LCDs (IPS or not) are not great for eyes either. limiting usage in bed at dusk did far better than switching to LCD. If you didn't do it, switch on some lights for your retinas to close.

I've been using this phone for a week. Everything is fine except the fast charging. With a QC 3.0 charger it doesn't exceed 14W.

Anonymous, 06 Sep 2023You need to be a body builder to hold it for any length of ... moreFor a rugged device the XR21 is very light, it is basically the same weight as several 'normal' smartphones. Look at devices from Doogee or Ulefone which can weigh almost double.
Ensuring MIL-STD-810H and IP69K ratings means the device will be heavier, but it is still perfectly manageable unless you have some kind of disability. I've carried it on hikes and it is compact enough to fit in a pocket.

I wish manufacturers would stop adding unnecessary weight to further the stereotype that 'Heavy equals quality '.

Pa... moreNice review. I had the XR20 since new until it was lost earlier this year. I saw the Android 12 update but never got Android 13. It was a very good phone but the camera was terrible.
I am on the OnePlus Nord N30 now. June 2023 release. I put a screen protector on and a Poetic rugged case and it's just as durable as the Nokia was. Same chipset as the XR21 but I despise stock Android and Oxygen OS 13 is very good. It's about half the price of the Nokia so I don't really see the value proposition here.
Also a little bit of vanity here but I think the new XR21 is a step down in design from the XR20 which had centered cameras and also came in blue. The number of people bothered by this can probably be counted on one hand.
LCD screens are great since they don't produce the eyestrain and headaches that OLEDs do. So until high frequency pwm becomes a standard (Xiaomi 13, next year's OnePlus 12), it's a selling point for me and a lot of people at /r/pwm_sensitive to buy these phones.
