OnePlus 6 and 6T get a new Android 11 Open Beta

Vlad, 09 August 2021

OnePlus released the first Open Beta of OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11 for the OnePlus 6 and 6T in early July, ahead of the previously promised schedule, and there has been a second build outed in the meantime.

Today the third Open Beta is going out for these two phones, based on Android 11 of course with OxygenOS 11 on top. Open Beta 3 optimizes background process management to improve battery life, fixes the failure to enable VoWiFi, fixes the fact that the Work-Life Balance feature didn't work when the screen was locked, enhances the smoothness of video playback in the YouTube app, and improves the overall system stability. Additionally, some unnamed known issues have been resolved.

All in all, if you are on the beta train with your OnePlus 6 or 6T, this looks like an update you should install as soon as you have the time. It comes in over-the-air and requires a 191MB download.

With all these builds coming out at a decent pace, we're hoping the final, stable update to Android 11 for the OnePlus 6 and 6T isn't far behind. It's nice to see the Chinese company taking care of its older phones in this way (both of these are from 2018), as that's not always a given. On the other hand, Android 11 itself is almost one year old now, so the sooner the stable update goes out, the better.

All ways on display is available

The only thing that I didn’t like about the update is that not all of the capabilities that Google adds to its mobile operating system are included on your phone since each manufacturer takes a somewhat different approach.
