OnePlus teases new device announcement for tomorrow

Enrique, 10 August 2021

On the eve of Samsung’s Unpacked event, OnePlus USA decides to tease a device of its own, one that it hopes will steal the spotlight from Samsung’s announcement of the Galaxy Z Fold3. The teaser is super vague and offers nothing aside from the teaser, along with the date and time. OnePlus will be holding an event for this mystery device tomorrow, August 11 at 10AM ET, which is the same time that Samsung Unpacked is set to kick off.

We’ve not seen or heard any rumors about any new OnePlus hardware, which leads us to believe it may be announcing a concept device. At first glance, the teased device looks to be a foldable one, but upon closer inspection it becomes clear that this device has two displays that might be joined by a hinge and not actually a flexible display that folds like Samsung’s.

All we can gather from the teaser is that there are two displays with minimal bezels, the left side of one display has a volume rocker, and the right side of the other display has a power key and physical alert slider. We are curious to see what OnePlus is going to announce, but it doesn’t seem like we’ll be getting any hands-on with whatever it is for a while.

If LG did an edge-to-edge phone alongside an edge-to-edge DualScreen case, the case hinge will scratch the side of the screen. It's even worse if the screen is curved. So really, that idea is not feasible.

I thought this design is a failure? Why OnePlus design team purposely knock their heads onto the wall?
