One UI 2.1 update re-enables NavStar customization on the Galaxy Note10 and S10

Victor, 06 April 2020

This is one of those pieces of good news that would barely register for most, but will be extremely exciting for a very specific group of users. NavStar, one the most advanced customization options available to some Samsung Galaxy users through Samsung Good Lock, was disabled with One UI 2.0. Now, in a new OTA, already seeding in the US and some other countries, NavStar is back online for the Galaxy Note10 and S10.

To get it to work, owners of said phones need to update to the latest firmware and also get the latest NavStar (v2.0.00.2) build from the Galaxy App store. We aren’t exactly sure whether this OTA update package for last year’s flagships is the same one we spotted a couple of days ago. However, all signs seem to point in that direction, since the update in question also trickles down some new camera features to said devices, like Single Take, Pro mode for video recording, AR Zone and My Filters, 60fps selfie videos in 1080p and 4K, as well as the April security patch from Google. NavStar compatibility seems to simply be the icing on the proverbial cake, in this case.

It is worth noting, though, that the update doesn’t fix all the issues with NavStar. For one, as reported by users, there is a nasty overlap happening between the show and hide buttons on the nav bar. This is something Samsung has acknowledged and says will be fixed with One UI 2.5. Clearly, the Korean giant is still busy with a major re-work of some of its code.

Samsung needs to change the app icons. Looks like a draw from 5 y.o child. Icons of android 6 were much better.
