Redmi GM confirms a Snapdragon 855 phone is in the works, but no pop-up camera

Peter, 09 April 2019

Lu Weibing, GM of the Redmi brand, has debunked the image that showed a phone dubbed Redmi Pro 2, which sported a pop-up camera. He does confirm that a phone with a Snapdragon 855 chipset is in the works, however, but its design will not be like the one shown in the render.

Since the original leak was pretty light on details, this may be the end of the road for the “Redmi Pro 2” (a phone that’s been rumored since at least 2017).

Redmi's Snapdragon 855-powered phone will not look like this

Whatever it is called, the phone will be quite a step up from the current most powerful Redmi phone – the Note 7 Pro with Snapdragon 675 (which is limited to China and India only).
