Nokia Lumia 1520 preview: Second encounter

15 November 2013
Lagging behind Android in hardware specs for what seemed like ages, WP8 managed to catch up in one fell swoop. With the Lumia 1520 at the spearhead, Nokia evened the playing field with a massive 1080p screen and a Snapdragon 800 chipset, then tilted it...

Wp phones takes more time to load apps than android. Try it with android and wp phones with the same specs. Wp lag is only concealed with the loading process. Some android looks sluggish but gets the job dome faster. Android for the win.

AnonD-100975, 16 Nov 2013Tested a 1020 in store yesterday. I am confused by the lagd... moreI've noticed that with WP too. Everyone always brags on about how perfect blah blah...But you can see stutters just like any other technology and even when it's smooth you can see that it's loading "lagging", but playing smooth animation while it's trying to load something or open a new window.

AnonD-43136, 16 Nov 2013Windows is doing the same to Android as android did to iOS!... moreI dont agree the bottom line is more apps. Look at the rubbish apps on the market for your droid right now. If you want to spend all trying to find something that is actually useful and wont hack into your contacts and sell to marketing agents then why bother to get out of bed. Juts advertise your bank account and password etc to save them time. Apps is the 95/5 rule. 5% of apps have 95% of the market. There are just too much junk out there. Why bother. Win needs to refine more, get system wide file manager, handle larger screens better, and use BBM.

Much bigger screen, but still having the same tile sizes?? I don't really need an extra column, but will prefer for larger tile size like the new ones for Windows 8.1.

However like to know what is that 5 inch model that Nokia is working on? is it Nokia Goldfinder or Moneypeny?

When is that 5 inch model is going to relaese worldwide?

Hoping 5 inch model will have same sepcification as Lumia with 1520 with only smaller screen.

                      Great article as always.
Perhaps you can help me with something though.

The hardware features, not specs, features ... no one seems concerned about them. Here we are looking at a 800-1,000usd phone and it has NO HDMI, you need WIFI to connect to a TV or projector. NO true USB / USB to go, you can't connect any USB device, keyboard, mouse or external drive for moving files (no file manager by the way, network or local)and of course not surprising, NO fm transmitter and no IR.

Hardware feature wise, not specs, it is no better than a good $40 candy bar phone.

I understand that it is all dumbed down but certainly for expensive flagship devices there should be some more innovative ambition.

Tested a 1020 in store yesterday. I am confused by the lagdroid statements as I found the 1020 very sluggish. Trying to switch between IE, the camera and the home screen was slower than my galaxy note (one) running cyanogenmod. The animations all remained fluid but I was waiting for the phone to respond. I like the look of the 1520 but Nokia have to release it soon, if they delay for over a month (US VS UK) like they did with the 1020 some other vendor will announce something better...

Windows is doing the same to Android as android did to iOS! Bottom line for windows to succeed is it needs more apps and the ease of use with quick toggles etc! Nokia should have chose Android as id love a camera like that on my droid! - Whats the camera sensor like compared to xperia Z1? I cant believe they didnt mention that - both 20mp and the Z1 has no hump (just whopping bezels like all xperia)!
