Apple iOS 8 preview: Opening Up

24 July 2014
It's the kind of thing to be happening in a galaxy far, far away. Apple opening up iOS to developers, while Google is moving towards an Apple-like unified experience across platforms and screen sizes. The simplest way to put it is that Material Design...

Looks like IOS and Android are starting to become the same. I use the Google Now launcher on my Android phone and tablet. It has made me want to use IOS now with Google services. I really can not tell the difference between my Galaxy light and a Iphone 4. I now want to get a Iphone 4S because I have to many cases for the Iphone 4 that use to be my Fathers.

Lets face it. IPhone only has higher profits because they sell their products at a larger margin than other manufacturers and they tie you in to iTunes etc so you are limited to where you can get stuff from and what you have to pay for it. There have been no major changes since the iPhone 4s to now so while you go about squealing about how super it is try something new rather than getting an iPhone on launch day and following the rest of the sheep. That is all

You know that report on how iOS have a backdoor that allows the government to get ANYTHING off your phone, but only if you've paired the device with your computer?

Well won't Handoff do exactly that? How sneaky of Apple - promote a feature that you will use, whilst swiping all your personal data.

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2014iTunes isn't difficult to use. It's just a pain in the ass ... moreI quite agree (as both a Mac and iOS user). While some iTunes features I like, such as the 'sync all artist/genre/playlist' it is a total pain that it's reliant on iTunes for everything. Drag & drop is the primary thing I miss about my old Galaxy Mini that I can't replicate on iOS.

Having to go via iTunes just to put a song on your mobile device is simply a waste of time especially if you do not have all your music synced to iTunes

I guess it reflects lastest OS share of 11.9% v Android 85%.

Maybe Apple needs to reflect on those numbers and extract the head out of the hole in the ground!

gnardog , 25 Jul 2014you JUST contradicted YOURSELF!!HA!these are two DIFFERENT ... moreI dont see where i "contradicted" myself... i just stated that most features appeal to most, if not all iOS users because they havent had them before, and most android users are waiting for features like these to be implemented in iOS so they can switch ships. For example, I know some people who use Android because of its features, but dislike the way they are implemented.

And like someone said, iTunes is not required. You can use an iOS device without ever having to use iTunes.
