Zopo Speed 8 hands-on: Zopo at MWC 2016

24 February, 2016
Zopo Speed 8 is the world's first smartphone to feature the MediaTek's flagship Helio X20 SoC. In case you don't know about this beast - it's the first chipset with a deca-core processor (yes, this means 10 CPU cores).

You commented that this phone is a prototype and that it only has a plastic frame. This seems very poor for an at least mid-range phone, is it possible that the full production model will have a decent real metal frame?

Mate 8's performance in single core is 1710 and multi core is 6245.It means it is better than nexus 6p,galaxy s7,galaxy s6,galaxy note 5,nexus 5x and htc one m9 but it is not present in any graph. Why?

MtkSupporter, 26 Feb 2016Poor mediatek with just this less known brand using it. All... morelol, almost all major manufacturers now going back to using Qualcomm because of the X20 rumor to be overheating, as well as the unavailable newest MediaTek processor at this time. The Helio P10 is just another Helio X10 with different GPU, no much difference between Octa core Cortex A53 in both X10 & P10.

Since Cortex A53 are already reached its full potential being clocked @ 2.0-2.2 GHz, u won't get anything other than small upgraded benchmark score, battery-hogging CPU, and higher heat if they try to upped A53 clock more than now.

Since A53 is no more appealing, the only choices avalable now are A57 & A72. Since the tragedy with SD 810, only Samsung & NVidia are brave enough to try their luck with A57.

The only option available now are Cortex A72, the combination of A53 in power consumption & A57 in performance with many improvements. This is also the reason why MediaTek skipped A57 and just go using A72, since their goal since several years ago is to use the best power-consumption chips (A7, A53) then clocked it high enough and add more cores into the CPU to upped their SoC performance.

Now, it seems Mediatek upped their game by using the best performance chips but also low in power consumption (A17, A72), sometimes adding with another low-power chips (A7, A53), to get the best SoC.

I respect Mediatek for brave enough to high-clocked their CPU and adding more cores to get better performance, something that being insulted by their rival at first (qualcomm, hisilicon, even samsung), but then followed by the rest of them later on. Because of them, we now can get good performance phone but still in the SANE price range.

Just remember several years ago when Mediatek processors are still very low-performance, we would never get to buy any decent phone with decent performance below $150. After they got serious and focused on improving their SoC, any other SoC manufacturers began to drop their prices and made their SoC more price-competitive while still maintain SANE price.

Back to X20, I hope after it being released officially, other phone manufacturers would think again and use this SoC to make a cheap-yet-beast devices. The only device in this category that has been released officially is Redmi Note 3 Pro, another SD-powered device from Xiaomi. I really hope they would release Redmi note 4 with Helio X20 later, not too long after Redmi Note 3 pro released internationally.

THAT Zopo launched at MWC is a PROTOTYPE, know what that means?
It's just a SAMPLE of what final product would looks like, physically.

Just from ur choice of words, I know u NEVER owned a device which use recent MediaTek SoC (6752, 6795). Recent MediaTek SoC are BETTER than other mid-range rival SoC, ESPECIALLY SD 615 & 410 which both sucks (615 is both low-performing & hand-burner, while 410 is just an embarassing low performing SoC with expensive price).

I know Mediatek cannot pick a fair fight with Qualcomm's SD 820, but Helio X20 is supposed to be the rival of SD 650 (both with dual cortex a72) and SD 808, while Helio X30 would be the rival of SD 652 and Kirin 950

U are the type of man who can only talk big and insulting other things u don't approve, especially the rival of your favs, while not knowing FULL potential of the things u'r insulting.

I know u are one of those QUALCOMM fanboys by ur choice of words, but please think before write anything negative about MediaTek processor.
I have Redmi Note 2 Prime with Helio X10 and I can say its CPU performance is BLAZINGLY fast! With the GPU, I can play most of all graphics-demanding games available for Android (Heck, I even play PSP games with this phone, and get good 25-60 fps)

This Helio X20 is yet to be released to public, and ALL the benchmark group at that time DOES NOT manage to measure the FULL POTENTIAL of Helio X20 since MWC is the first time this Helio X20 introduced, and I believed there are some other factors like bad software optimization included, because there is NO WAY Dual Cortex A72 with Octa A53 can score lower than 70k in Antutu!

PS. I don't give a damn about you Qualcomm Fanboys, but STOP coming to thread about Mediatek-powered device and start talking shit. It only makes u looks more like an Idiot more than a fanboys

wow, x20 such a fail.It has 10 cores but slower than previously 8 core helio x10, and 20% slower than QUAD core SD820 IN MULTICORE performance. GPU performance also > 30% weaker than midrange SD 652.
IMO SD650 is on par/better than this but in power consumption (we don't know yet power consumption on these soc)

Poor mediatek with just this less known brand using it. All the major brand goes with the snapdragon 820. I don't really believes the performances of this deca core helio x20 lack behind the snapdragon 820. I will buy phone with this processor if brand like lenovo or meizu comes out a model with it.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2016to score 1.6k in single core there must be no a72 in this devicePre-release... Probably underclocked to 1.7/1.8ghz
No other regular Arm than A72 are able to reach this score in 20nm...even A57

I think we will never see 2.5ghz A72 on Helio X20 in 20nm, but 2.2/2.3ghz (mt6595 was announced to 2.5ghz and we never see it higher than 2.2ghz...)
Alps mt6797 board is able to...but that's a board, not a real smartphone (all geekbench scores are around 2100/6900 on it)

At 2.2ghz, Geekbench score should be around 1900pts in single...and JavaScript's cpu performances will probably be much higher than Kryo (by 25%, Qualcomm customs are bad on JavaScript).

Remember that release date is in april...
