Sony Ericsson P1 review: A smart sharp-shooter

08 May 2007
The Sony Ericsson P1 is an exciting new smartphone that is to be included in Sony Ericsson portfolio. Powered by Symbian OS and featuring a QWERTY keyboard, a touchscreen TFT display with QVGA resolution and a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, it represents the next level of the development of UIQ smartphones. As such, it seems that the Sony Ericsson P1 will be the flagship of Sony Ericsson smartphone line overrunning even the Sony Ericsson P990 and we were more than curious to find out how it performed in real life.

This is pathetic attempt by SE to rival the N95. Why no EDGE? Why no GPS? Why only 3.2MP? This is not how a flagship phone should be!

I really hope this isnt really a successor to the P990; I'd consider the P1 inferior both in design & features(with the exception of the camera & memory).

i like the look of it.. but i'm skeptical now, aft getting burnt by the p990 'experience'

          pros: finally voip support!
cons: no 3.5g? what are they thinking??

question mark: streaming tv as in iptv?

i can live with a 3.2mp camera, (K800i SE Quality) is more than enough for me. i also hear the qwerty keyboard is very handy once you get the hang of it. i wonder if the standby icons can be customised by user as in the m600?

No EDGE, no HSDPA, still wifi 11b (when most phones already have 11g), non-removable keypad, reduced screen size from p990, uses the same 208 processor of the p910/990, triband and not quadband, only 15fps video... this P1 is very dissappointing! I think I'll go buy an N95 instead.

i already have W880 for my walkman,
K800i limited edition for my cam-fon,
but i'd like to trade one of them for this P1.
                  what do you think?

                    that`s why i didnt get the M600 !! :D

I knew that SE can make a better one like this , but what about the QWERTY ? is it that bad as GSMARENA team says ?

This looks excellent! I'll miss the xenon-flash on my K800i, but this is definitly my next cellphone!

If only it had a xenon flash and more memory then i could scrap my k800i and w950i and just run this one. HSDPA would have been nice too...

p1 or nokia e65 or nokia n95? I HAVE to be able to make VoIP calls. which should I get? I know I can use gizmo on nokia, what can I use with this? N95 seems way too expensive so I might like this better than the E65 which is more reasonable in terms of $$. anyone?
