Sony Xperia XZ review: X to the Z

28 September 2016
Sony's latest flagship, the Xperia Z6 comes with refined design, improved camera, and a due update in specs. Wait, back up a little there - it's actually called the Xperia XZ this time around but, yeah, the rest of that is true.

polycarbonate frame while having antenna window on the back , something is not right here...

''likes of LG and Samsung have moved to QHD''
-samsung screen is samloed therefore a fake QHD resolution , LOL . and I don't know what LG is smoking , can't they see that QHD resolution is seriously affecting battery life and performance on their phones :( .

I don't quite get why do reviewers question the quality in the Sony phones when it comes to the camera. I'm the happy owner of a Z5 and I'm a professional photographer and photo editor. This camera is amazing. Considering the dimensions you get (I'm referring to how compact they come), it is incredible that you still get some for of control over the photography and the image processing.

Photography has never truly been about sharpness. That's one setting in a few hundred. Why do almost all other brands focus on that is beyond me.

Sony phones offer a complex camera experience whichever the context may be. Why on earth would I want this changed?

Christian, 28 Sep 2016Actually it isn't fair for the S7 edge.... because for the ... moreXZ has front firing stereo speakers unlike the Galaxy S7 Edge. And also the larger camera sensor.

AnonD-588599, 28 Sep 2016Pros: Good looks, UI close to Vanilla Android, Feature rich... moreComparing the HTC 10 to this, with the X you get a better battery, better cameras, waterproofing, and better audio (talking about the speakers).

Just another Sony with basically no segment where it could excel other flagships, except for price for maybe! Good lord Sony, I don't know what is wrong with you.

Wow, actually pretty good battery life for its size. IDK why there isn't a 4GB SKU, but 3GB is plenty for Android. Sony still makes the best sensors on their cameras, just that it takes the average user that you can't just stick with Superior Auto Mode, but use Manual Mode instead.

They make the best camera ... you just do not know how to use it.

Why are you comparing S7 edge battery with the XZ? It should be S7 vs XZ in battery life.

Pros: Good looks, UI close to Vanilla Android, Feature rich and aesthetically pleasing media apps, impressive front facing camera, SteadyShot while shooting videos

Cons: Where do I start? Huge bezels, too much bloat (only 20 GB available to user of 32 GB), subpar camera, battery life nothing to write home about, long charging time (takes around 3 hours from 0 to 100%), no fingerprint scanner in US, atrocious pricing

I can't think of one reason why would anyone prefer this to the likes of Galaxy S7, HTC 10 etc.

No hate to Sony at all...
But,they are trying their luck one to many generations in a row.Wish them all the best in kicking that old tire.

great review, amazing phone the Sony fans will love it for sure
i can't think why there sin't a file manager (co worker has Sony C4 and it gets a bit hard to find some files) and i don't like the design personally but that's subjective so no further comments on that
still commends on the phone, it looks really well :D

I think its performance is average. Average flagship If I can say so.

Wow !! Pretty nice battery and performance r good
..awsme camera n design look...great sony..

If the screen size is 5.5" maybe I will consider buying it since I am a Sony fan but nah. I'll pass this year. Hope Sony, if they are still alive next year, will learn their lesson and come up with a real premium phone not a mid ranger passing off as a premium one like the X performance.

"We've been having a hard time wholeheartedly recommending a Sony flagship recently, for one reason or another. Well, we have it easier with the Xperia XZ - it's the best Sony smartphone ever. Only, we can't help but feel they can and should do even better."

My thought about their devices are the same. No thanks.
