OnePlus 3T review: Digitally remastered

7 December 2016
OnePlus has always been one of those companies on the mobile scene, you just can't help but root for. At least to some degree, that is. A small Chinese start-up with big dreams, throwing around lofty titles, like "the flagship killer" and talking of a price revolution that is just around the corner.

AnonD-510098, 08 Dec 2016Was thinking of buying this phone but heard news yesterday ... moreUnless gaming, the SoC plays very little role anymore. Few apps max them even for a tiny bit.

Look at memory amount, memory speed and storage speed if you want a speedier phone...

OnePlus 3T has better audio quality from speakers than OnePlus 3, but much worse audio quality from headphones.

AnonD-525706, 10 Dec 2016Okay, official support and custom ROMs are two very differe... moreTells me their hardware is so good and popular that other people are willing to support it.
OP was born from this kind of movement (with their Cyanogen tie). Fast-forward to present day, OP3 is a great and well support phone (pretty much all 3rd-party ROMs are available).

                  What about the OP3T?
It's still early days, I know, but if this trend of releasing a new model every 6mo (along with a price-hike) continues, I'm not so sure things will still work as we are used to... and I must say, for a variant of an already very well supported phone, I am kind of surprised by the (lack) of early builds of ROMs like Cyanogenmod (even if things like front camera don't work, or stability/performance isn't anything close to ideal).

Let's face it, things could change (and I hope they do), but the early signs aren't great.

Still or video, the noise is so horrible. Rest everything is fine, I don't know what to do? I am trying to find more 1+3 vs. 1+3T camera comparison but not finding it anywhere. There are a couple of videos and there it looks good. I am totally confused.

charging the battery to the stated voltage gets more ma/h but not so good for the battery. The samsung s7 (I know it sound ironic) is more carefull and charges the battery to less than capacity,

....the battery maximum charging voltage is only 4.35 V, not the rated 4.4 V. This means that the actual battery maximum capacity is nearly 3,180 mAh but Samsung is making only 3,000 mAh available to the user. This further raises the likelihood that Samsung opted to lower the voltage (and sacrifice available charge capacity) in order to increase the battery’s longevity (cycle life) or decrease the battery swelling at the high charge rate of 1C, or perhaps both....

Hmm, larger battery capacity without size and weight gain......... Simply upped the voltage? Well usually this has an affect on battery life cycles? Charge to a higher voltage stresses the battery. if a 4.4 volt battery is only charged to 4.2 volts it will charge to a lower capacity but likely have more charge cycles. No thanks

J o m s, 08 Dec 2016Shady update? They will have Nougat update early next year ... moreOkay, official support and custom ROMs are two very different things! Samsung dropped support for its 2010 flagship, the Galaxy S2 ages ago (On Jellybean 4.1)... The device is still trotting along well, thanks to the custom ROM development teams... What does it tell you about Samsung, though? Get my point?

This is pure horror from OnePlus 3T. First they buffed up Front Camera for no reason and now the main rear camera is making it more worse. OnePlus 3T is going downwards with negative upgrades. I hope OnePlus CEO give damn about such pathetic upgrades and corrects the mistakes for OnePlus 4 or 5.

AnonD-618318, 08 Dec 2016The low lights photos shotted without HQ mode? I think the ... moreJust to clear things up, yes, the original OnePlus 3 low-light sample was shot with HQ on. This was due to the fact that from the many samples we took, that one just looked best. We did the same for the OnePlus 3T, as in, we shot a lot of samples, some in HQ. Again, the final shot chosen was the one that looked best in our opinion. In this case, it was one with HQ disabled. The fact of the matter is, the two phones definitely have some difference in processing, regardless of HQ mode. In low-light scenarios, in particular, the OnePlus 3T exhibits what we would call more "mature" processing. The company has apparently decided to dial back on some post-processing and hence the shots have arguably more noise now. On the flip side, however, we do tend to see more detail in the OnePlus 3T samples - mostly finer things, like textures left intact. It comes down to personal preference and as far as our two cents go, the original OnePlus 3 does produce more appealing, albeit more processed low-light stills.
