MWC 2017: Sony Xperia XZ Premium, XZs, XA1 Ultra, and XA1 hands-on

27 February 2017
While Sony seemed timid the last year, now it’s ready to roar again. It poured all its tech prowess into the making of the Xperia XZ Premium, which marks a number of world firsts. The XZs is a mid-season upgrade of the former top dog, borrowing the Motion Eye camera from the Premium. Then there are the super mid-rangers - the XA1 impresses with its flagship camera, the XA1 Ultra with its selfie cam.

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2017Well said man. No worries about that TH boy, he is blind himself. Thanks a lot sir to be honest I like Sony phones but still can't comprehend why do they keep shooting themselves in foot. They have one of largest IP next only to Nintendo perhaps. Why can't they make a fantastic phone with their own sensor and a gaming device with ps4s IP with them. They have all the medium to succeed. Their channel on Indian TV is highly rated can't they market their own devices on it or even on their films. Make a fantastic camera with gaming prowress of shield and it'll sell by millions

Dream to have XZP compact with 5" screen and also top and bottom bezel cut a half. But now i'll stay with my XZ.

I'm willing to give Sony a chance, do you guys think I should buy the Sony Xperia xz Premium or look for another phone.

That XZ Premium is simply gorgeous. Can't wait to lay my hands one one. Just can't decide which color to get.

Don't get me wrong, they have a lot to love in XZ Premium (finally they got in the right track of what was achieved with Z5 Premium), but despite being a fantastic phone it still has some areas which I would like to be improved... no point in beating the dead horse.

AnonD-404798, 28 Feb 2017''Although the Z5 offers a maximum 23Mp sensor resolution f... moreFor indoor or low-light shots, the wide-aperture f/2 lens ensures bright and accurate exposures with well-controlled noise. Even in extreme low light using a 5 lux light source, images are very acceptable, and the 1/16 sec shutter speed and ISO 2000 sensitivity setting ensures nice results. The Xperia X Performance can also detect camera shake using gyro information, so if you keep the smartphone still by either using a tripod or practicing good handling techniques, it will automatically select a slower shutter speed and lower ISO sensitivity for better image quality. During testing we found this to be very effective when using a tripod, and the resulting 0.6 sec/ISO 100 exposure settings ensured sharper and cleaner results, compared to handheld shots at 1/16 sec / ISO 1000.
When higher ISO sensitivities are used, however, some loss of detail occurs as a result of the strong noise reduction. A very minor color shift is also evident in low-light pictures, with a pink cast in the center shifting to green at the edges. Yeah all this jargon at normal mode

What a gorgeous phone. That camera looks soooooooooooooo promising. But I dont like big phones & Sony wont release any compact in India. So what can I do but Dream on.

Professional photographers only use the smartphone when "the best camera is the (only) one you have around". Physical size matters for PQ, you can only expect that much from a ultra-compact camera such as the ones that equip smartphones.

Manual mode is great for quick fine-tuning or that one special picture of that special moment, but if your camera requires permanent manual adjustment just to take a good picture then something is fatally flawed with your auto-mode.
This is what blind fanboys that go to dxo and trump about how amazing Xperias are for photography fundamentally don't understand.

You can change to the maximum resolution in the settings menu, but as always, we’ve evaluated image quality using the camera’s default mode. Even at 8Mp, however the Z5 was able to cement its position as the number one device with a series of outstanding results in all sub-categories.
It would be interesting to see how well the Z5 could perform if Sony had implemented a 16Mp default mode! As it is, for photo results the Xperia Z5 is tied with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge at 88 points, both of which are clearly ahead of the iPhone 6 Plus at 84 points, and just in front of the LG G4 with 86.''

that is from DxOMark review of the Z5 .
