Hands-on Nokia 8 review: First impressions

16 August 2017
This is a Nokia phone built by Foxconn for HMD in partnership with Zeiss and Google. Make no mistake, though, there’s Finnish blood running through Nokia 8’s veins. The new leadership tried to resurrect the qualities that were vital to the Nokia brand: quality, simplicity, trust and reliability.

God I hope the Nokia 9 has a 5.7" screen... Otherwise it's pixel XL2 for me... Maybe the honour 10...

meh.. they should've made this as a midranger, since it doesn't have anything special to be a proper flagship.

This phone seems to be a huge disappointment. I have already seen some samples from cnet, gadgetmatch and arstechnica and they don't look better than Nokia 6 samples. Moreover neither raw nor a full manual mode in the camera. They should have made something like a Lumia 1020. The Nokia 8 seems to be not special at all. I hate bothies.

one thing, never compare N8 to S8 and other flagships, always mind the price before comparison,

as this post says, "Nokia brand: quality, simplicity, trust and reliability." if you can't understand this line, you're just another keyboard warrior that can't get what you want from your own phone or you simply don't understand what Nokia means then and now

BUILD OVER TREND .. TOUGHNESS OVER DESIGN

What a shame the display is not AMOLED. The reason why I won't be buying the phone.

[deleted post]i watched hands-on videos from other tech sites, they weren't allowed to post the pics taken with the phone and maybe that's for the best, maybe the software isn't final

I can't get over myself and not think of the famous Nokia N8 while looking at the Copper color option, it just looks so cool. Phone itself screams that is fast, camera-centric, durable, but the battery capacity, no waterproofing and no standout feature (that's not actually a gimmick) worries me. Still it's going to be very reliable because of the deal with Google and will get software updates at the right time, fast because of the vanilla Android and I hope nice camera tricks since they bought back the patents from Microsoft.

[deleted post]wait for the full review soon

Very disappointing that apparently the camera app has neither raw nor a full manual mode. 3rd party camera apps might work maybe, but then you can't use the monochrome one.

Also note , Nokia 8 runs cooler (!).

3,090mAh battery for a QHD screen phone. 3500mAh+ should have been the very least
Also QHD screen on 5.3 inch phone, why?
Sorry but not going to pay flagship price for a phone which can be thrown away after 1-2 year due to horrible battery.
