Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) review

05 December 2018
The latest iPads are the best tablets Apple has ever made, of course. But now they are also highly advertised as fully-fledged computers and the maker wants you to think they can do everything. Do they really? We grabbed the latest iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) to find out just that.

Long story short - the 7nm Apple A12X Bionic chip is the fastest mobile chipset on the planet today and a benchmark for the whole chip industry.

                  Nice Product

Fearghast, 13 Dec 2018Never used a flash drive on my iPad Pro, well I tried but w... moreWell, I just loaded a bunch of video using iTunes last night. I used Wacom Intuous drawing tablets with my PC (pretty hard creating straight angled lines as I illustrate architecture, and the whole direct eye-hand diconnect was unnatural), and I was considering getting a Cintiq display drawing tablet. At similar cost, an iPad Pro at a similar price range and in just one device setup with hours of battery.

Procreate is the greatest portable drawing program with intuitive gesture controls that is way easier than using Photoshop. I have been using Galaxy Note phones and tablets with Sketchbook Pro, and really, incomparable to the speed of making complex and even perspective grid guided drawing setups of Procreate.

I remember trying out the Apple Pencil with Procreate for the first time ever in the Apple store two years back - I was stricken how entire thing worked so well. Sure, I am limited to some 16,000+ x 8000+ pixels or 64mp, but that is more than enough for respectable work. I tried out the iPad 2018 since July, and I was impressed at how that performed as my portable drawing device.

So I do not miss the Wacom pen experience.

7h3N319hb0r, 13 Dec 2018I have a hard time trying to load up my 60GB worth of e-boo... moreNever used a flash drive on my iPad Pro, well I tried but when the results stucked me, I never used it after that.
I always connect iPad Pro via USB cable to my PC and sync it via iTunes - 12.9 version has a USB 3.0 so it's pretty swift.

120Hz screen is nice for drawing, but Wacom simply makes better pens.

Fearghast, 13 Dec 2018TBH I have a really hard time to understand that last parag... moreI have a hard time trying to load up my 60GB worth of e-books and PDF, some of my favorite films, and it would seem that even the official USB-C HDMI+USB combo does not work even transferring photos and video from my thumb drive. I would have to rely on syncing via my cloud services. The typing experience is the worst by having to point with my finger for selecting because of the no-mouse support.

But the iPad Pro is the best when it comes for portable drawing/graphics. That is the main reason why I got it.

7h3N319hb0r, 13 Dec 2018Just the Pencil makes the iPad Pro and the regular 2018 iPa... moreTBH I have a really hard time to understand that last paragraph.

If anyone would combine iPad Pro and Wacom pen, I would be eternally grateful. I like sketching, but my Apple stylus lies in a drawer for more than a year, so uncomfortable, such a cheap plastic :(
But as I can see a lot of people are ok with it.

Fearghast, 12 Dec 2018I have an iPad Pro for years, my comment is not good enough... moreJust the Pencil makes the iPad Pro and the regular 2018 iPad way useful. I've had the iPad Pro for a week, and I have been using it daily for work. I would agree that a Surface Pro could do even more than any iPad, but the Pencil and Procreate are unmatched.

I used to find nothing compelling with the first iterations of iPads, but pretty on for usual people to consume stuff with a bigger screen.

Now that apps like better drawing/graphic apps, upcoming Photoshop, film editing apps, audio editing apps are possible with high quality outputs, I placed my own money to produce commission-grade visual art. The hardware is there, and in very pleased that it can handle high resolution, no-lag, multiple layers that can match or even better my Alienware with 16 GB RAM.

I just want to thank you, and others for making it possible for guys like us to be able to afford one. By buying, you help us, like for gaming laptops for us to use.

iPad Pro is just another tablet, nothing special, limited OS, nice hardware - but you can use like 1/10 of it's power (unless you cut 4K video on it (don't know why bother, but you "can")).

but yeah, for some ipad is enough to be productive. and to be fair, ipads are quite a good tool for portability and productivity. Sure not as good as full blown laptop in many cases but then again, ipad is not for everyone
