I have been using Xperia 5 III for 2 years and now its time for me to get another job phone but I think I will wait for pixel 8. I don't have a good experiences from using 5 III (overheating and al lot of bugs). Its weird that they got rid off zoom camera, I found myself using it quite often.
What do you think about waiting for pixel 8?

"The 2x zoomed photos are identical in quality to 2.5x zoomed ones from the Xperia 5 IV's telephoto camera."

Then, why not post photos from Xperia 5 IV under the exact same condition for comparison?

MRSTEK, 01 Sep 2023S23 has never been more appealing than now.S23? no.. S22 should be more precise. S23 is very overpowered for 5 V.

MRSTEK, 01 Sep 2023S23 has never been more appealing than now.And what about the damaged display of the S23? (If you look carefully, you can see an ugly, though perfectly circle-shaped injury on the top center of the VISIBLE screen area. And this is for ALL copies of S23. This is unacceptable for my standards.)

S23 has never been more appealing than now.

"the storage is only 128GB, and the price is €1,000"

This needs a different perspective: in most other phones the amount of memory is fixed and not expandable.
The Sony Xperia, on the other hand, can easily get a memory expansion for cheap: You can add a micro sd card at 512 GB for just around 40 bucks - something neither apples, samsung or asus phones offer.
One question though: was the throttling behavior improved over the notorious xperia IV line?

That brightness man, come on sony 1k$ for that and cameras look mediocre at best.

The Xperia 5 IV sensor telephoto is only 1/3.5 in size.

Meaning the telephoto camera (crop sensor) of the Xperia 5V is larger, than the one of the Xperia 5 IV. So adding the Telephoto camera to the 5 V would be pointless, as it means in decrease in Quality, compared to just taking a crop from a huge main Sensor.

Disappointing Heat dissipation on the latest Sony Xperia 5G. Problems that always appear on SONY XPERIA cellphones, even on the Sony Xperia 1V Flagship itself experience the same thing. Disappointing

Is Sony actually trying to troll people or why are they releasing a higher end midrange for 1k€? This department will be so dead

The biggest con of this phone is it will be outdated in a few months with the 8G3 right around the corner

how good is this? got a review just a second after the phone was launched.

I am totally disappointed with this phone. They ditched the telephoto camera but kept the same price. 2x crop from a camera with Quad Bayer filter is acceptable for a $600 phone but for $1000 is inexcusable. I hoped they would put a traditional Bayer filter on it so we can enjoy full resolution of the sensor, and the crop would than be good. But no, they are too stupid to do that.
I have an Xperia 5 IV and the camera is fun to use, but the picture quality is far from other flagships. In challenging light conditions scenes my old and cheap Pixel 3a is better.
If Sony wants to continue using this "in camera" instead of "computational photography" approach, they have to use the best possible camera hardware instead of using 2x crop from a Quad Bayer camera

Two cameras, Tiny 6.1”, €1000, dead on arrival. Only Apple can pull off stunts like that!

Nice phone but still think smartphones like that shouldn't cost more than €600. Smartphone prices are ridiculious nowadays.
