HTC Touch Diamond vs. Samsung i900 Omnia: Head-to-Head

02 July 2008
It’s PocketPC playoffs and HTC are giving Samsung a match at the GSM Arena. With two of the stars of the season arriving in our office all at once, we thought it’s a heck of an opportunity for some Diamond-Omnia-Diamond-Omnia-Diamond-Omnia game-set-match. We got two aces up to the challenge, so sit back and stretch out. Ah well, get that six-pack too and join us for the kick-off...

hi had the samsung i900 for 7days interface is rubbish no multitouch no 3.5mm jack or stero speakers, plastic back cover should be steel. i think the i900 needs to go through another vesion change before i would look at it again. So sold it and put yep a 16gb iphone the interface multitouch and sound is spot on, but would like to see it all alluminium casing, mini sd slot, quad mini speakers would be nice, oh and a solar panel screen under the touch think that coming to phones next year. Oh and an embeded satnav and lastly the cpu increase to say 600mhz instead of 400ish sweet

Been using Omnia for a while now, it aint bad. although i cant go against HTC cos i never used d version in question, i have used HTC Advantage, trust me its da bomb. My advice, NEVER pick a fone cos of the look and feel over performance. General review of processing power, bugs and battery life i think Omnia's got it. Its better to pick what will serve you rather than useless efizzie.

Fones are like women: some pretty looking babes as companion are preferred by guys because of people looking at us on the street BUT when we need them to cook for us they cant even turn on the gas cooker.... not worth it.

both are great phones. It's the OS that's the problem. It eats too much juice off the devices... Will wait for windows to release a new mobile OS first before buying another windows mobile device....

I upgraded from Orange SPV M300 to the Diamond and was NOT impressed, so have gone back to my M300!

            Main points that I found:

            1. You put the Diamond into your pocket (within its case) and, as you push it in, you accidentally switch on the power. This you don't realise until you've opened up a dozen applications, and probably rang out to someone unintentionally.

            2. Ergonomics: I couldn't ever clearly hear what people had to say when putting the phone to my ear. Why? Because the speaker section isn't designed to fit in the ear - it's just flush! This became painful when trying to hold conversations for prolonged periods of time.

            3. The screen rendering was quite slow, and the slide mechanism wasn't really that great (although Teeter was wicked!).

            4. I found that the phone always felt "greasy" as well, and so was forever cleaning it.

The Samsung now sounds tempting... but can't see the real advantages over the M300 (brick) that I have now.

            Watch this space ;)

I prefer samsung, because it's nicer and better than HTC, samsung's features and performance is higher than HTC and if you want buy one of this i suggested that buy samsung.

I have recently tried and used both the Omnia and the Touch Diamond and have to say the Omnia is streets ahead. The HTC falls dow n for me on 2 issues that are fundamental to every day use.

1/ screen response is appalling and the screen is too small to be a usable touch screen. The Omnia is fantastic, even with my chunky fingers. Yes the HTC has better resolution but that is about the only thing I found in the HTCs favour.

2/ The battery life is unacceptable on the HTC lasting less than a day for me with light to medium use. The Samsung goes for twice the time.

Only other comments I would mention in HTCs favour is the standard USB cable and its more compact with a nice case supplied in the box. But as a heavy business user it was generally unusable for the reasons above

To the editors ..i'd like to know more about the high-pass filter you supposed to be on the htc!..that's the worst news i could receive! ok, it's not a high fidelity device in any case, but i was already wondering about auto-build a usb to 3,5mm jack with audiophile components for plugging in my hi-fi system......a 100hz high bandpass would be really bad..
Looking forward to a clarification (sorry for my english), really thanks for the great comparison.. Davide

i think htc touch diamond is better than omnia

                                        1) diamond have TouchFLO 3D Home screen better than Omnia's Touchwiz UI

2)diamond have good design which gives better look than omnia
